Talked to Dell today and they moreless told me that they are now clearing out stock on there XPS 15 L521x..
Found this out as I ordered a XPS 15 L521x last week but I got a call today saying it can't be built with the spec's I selected as they are not filling inventory on the L521x for parts now as new refresh 2013 refresh with intel's 4th Gen Haswell processors of the xps 15 will be out soon. and they are ramping up for this.
I was told could be early as 2 weeks from now.
On the bright side of things I will be getting a $200 discount of the new XPS as I had a fast ship order setup for the XPS 15 L521x and they had to moreless Cancel it.. and from what I was told is they are just clearing out the system that are already built.
Hope its soon!
Has anyone else heard anything? on dates or if the xps line will look the same?
I sure hope the current XPS 15 look stays its sexy! And the best part is the Haswell Intel generate less heat.
-
That's great to hear, if true. I've been waiting for this refresh for the best part of the last year, after my M1330 died last August. I was getting slightly worried with things being so quiet about the XPS line (I knew something would come out eventually, but no timescale).
I'm praying that they basically do another XPS 14, but with a better screen and a bit lighter/thinner. That will suit me nicely. -
Rate now you can't even order the XPS 14 in Canada..
The Inspiron 15R Touch has been updated with Intel 4th gen processors (Haswell) on Dells website!
Models are available with the Core i5-4200U and Core i7-4500U.
Now bring on the XPS Line!!
Also all the Alienware laptops have been updated to with Intel 4th gen processors (Haswell) -
I'm still hoping (most-likely in vain) for a Haswell refresh of the XPS 17.
-
Just noticed on the Canadian site if you goto the Business sales Website.. all the mobile XPS models including the XPS 14 and XPS 15 now in the drop down (Laptops,Tablets
& Ultrabooks) they are listing as New XPS 14 and New XPS 15.. this just changed today.
Now when you click on them it brings up the last years 3rd gen intels.. so I wondering if they are getting ready for the launch of the new XPS 2013 refresh with the Haswell intels on the website.. -
That's great to hear even if it doesn't officially mean anything. I tried out two L521X systems last summer but was quite unhappy with the displays on both units. I'm hoping for a Haswell refresh with a better display and a GeForce 700 series GPU (740M?). I hope they keep the slim form factor with slot-load drive as I still actually use discs. It would be gravy if they could finally offer some different colors, too. Blacks and gunmetals instead of just light silvers.
It would also be nice if they could fix those wireless issue that everyone had been talking about, but I didn't seem to have that problem on either of the units I tried briefly last year. -
-
I would love a full voltage 4750hq in the XPS 14. Just drop the discrete chip. Oh, and that new 14" FHD IPS screen.

Personally, I hope they drop the ODD to make room for a better cooling system and a more powerful GPU, like the 750m or better. I can always get an external optical drive.
However, Dell only seems to do major refreshes ever couple years or so, so this is probably unlikely. -
Please bring back the RGB screen or equivalent. The screen is terrible compared the Studio 16 XPS or XPS L501x. Only thing that put me off from buying the current gen and I've been waiting forever for a refresh.

Waiting (what seems like) eternally for this update.

To me, it seems as though Dell are either keeping very tight lipped for whatever reason or dropping the 13-15" XPS series, especially with things like the take-over bid and desire to move into other markets like tablets and phones. I'm looking into alternatives at the moment since it seems unlikely that Dell will be putting out anything soon.
-
I also do not think she will update soon. And I'm looking at other options.
What would be another option? The MSI 2OC-022US or GT60 2OD-026US 15.6.
But I think this notebook very extravagant, unlike the XPS 15 which is much more portable and cute. Did not want the MacBook Pro because it has no support for most games. Besides having Dell warranty in Brazil.
I want a notebook for daily, for use with AutoCAD and also for games.
I will travel to the USA next week. And with doubts if tou buy:

You suggest another option? -
They have just under 2 months to come out with something or at least give us word, or I'll be forced to look elsewhere, myself.
I definitely find it odd that they aren't updating their Dell brand systems with new processors or even acknowledging their existence. -
-
As far as the XPS 15 Haswell refresh I don't know if we are going to see it any time soon.. from what it sounds like from talking to a friend that works for Dell at their Canadian office in Toronto. Anyways he works in marketing. So he hears about stuff months before it comes out as they have to setup marketing for new systems. but has not herd a thing about the XPS 15 refresh when I asked him. That's the reason I went ahead with 2nd the L521x for my GF as her ASUS laptop died. -
I tried two different L521X systems in late 2012..I wanna say November or December. The screens were poor. Not just average, but poor. I have pretty discerning eyes and am critical of a display probably more than anything else. I knew going into the purchases that I was going to be taken aback since I was coming from an L502X with its B+RG and would have to get used to the downgrade. But they were just plain dull even after changing the color scheme and mildly gridlined, both of them. Compared them with Vaio, HP, and Alienware screens, as well as an MBA. Just bad. Sent them back specifically for that reason. I could not believe that Dell would build a system with premium mats but try to get away with using a junky screen and was pretty disgusted with them at that point. Now, was my case exceptional? Are better ones available? Is it random as to which you get? Maybe, but I'm not trying again.

Just had a chat with Dell this morning--I am looking to purchase and XPS 12 with the Haswell 4th gen processor, and they said that it should be available "mid-July." They took my email address and promised to contact me, so we shall see...
-
-
This year we have the XPS 11 and a refresh of the 12. If we see refreshes of the XPS 13, 14 and 15, I don't think it would be until autumn, whereas most of Dell's competitors have already announced something to suit all ranges. -
I have been seeing July 9th as the release date for the Haswell model--anyone else have this info?
-
I hope they have a higher than 1080p option because ASUS laptops have been looking much more attractive in specs and price.

Sigh. Edit: Australia centric, July 8 seems to be the go date for US. -
Sorry to hear that you have to wait longer down under (although in watching House Hunters Australia right now, I don't feel that sorry for you!
). But I can't seem to get any confirmation of the July 8th date for the US, either. I did see the link that you posted, but I wonder where that user is getting his "confirmed" information when actual Dell reps are telling me that "mid-July" is tentative?

On those such sites, the only thing I'm finding new is the 15R. No 17, and no special editions.

Since last week, XPS 15 and XPS 14 are unavailable on the Dell Spain website.
Today I talked with a sales rep and he said that these two models are discontinued and it's not possible purchase them. -
The XPS 14 and 15 have been unavailable/available/unavailable/available.. for every couple of weeks since march this year.
-
Is there XPS 15 series with touchscreen?
-
I am actually planing on buying the XPS 15 (i7 , 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GT 640) for a total of 1600 (2100$). Which is kinda cheap.. but if there will be a refresh coming then I should maybe wait ?
Will it be smaller, will it still have displayport or maybe dual-dvi ? Will it suppot 120Hz on an external screen? What will the price be? ..... ? -
You probably don't know what cheap means. In the UK you can get it for 1050 Euro with the same spec you posted and I would not recommend buying it. It's outdated system with poor wireless, no cooling, small battery, useless ODD, the GPU is weak and no touch screen.
Buy proper notebook like 880Z or wait a few months for new XPS because there will be no refresh for existing one. -
From the new Latitude and Precision Specs, new XPS 14 (when, if ever, comes out) looks promising, specially weight and battery life. 14" Latitude weighs around 3.6 pounds with discrete graphics, which is already less than current XPS 14; Precison 15" is slimmer, I guess...
Let's hope, and that WiFi works evenly and strong this time (although I did fix my Wifi, but signal is not the strongest around! -
I was very interested in finding out when the XPS 15 would be getting Haswell, obviously as I'm writing this there is still no news. I've gone through Dell Live Chat twice (United Kingdom) and ironically got the same live chat agent both times, I was told that they currently don't have information on the status of XPS 15 regarding Haswell, however the live chat rep did say that they would likely receive information regarding the matter by the end of September. Judging from that, I guess they get their information from whichever department internally and as of writing this, have heard nothing on the matter. So its seems even internally Dell are very quiet on the subject.
So while that really doesn't add much to this thread, that's what I've found out.
The recent news regarding the new slim Precision Laptop dubbed the M3800 is an indication that maybe we might see XPS 15 information come out at around the same time when this product appears on the Dell website. I hope anyway! -
My best guess is a number of things caused the delay. 1) Waiting for the full haswell lineup, 2) waiting for the Intel/Microsoft/Synaptics nextgen trackpad, 3) waiting on W8.1, 4) waiting for high res screens to start getting churned out in bulk and 5) chassis redesign (fingers crossed).
Just my 2c -
I'd be happy with at least a bit of information end of September/early October regarding the XPS 15, its easy to get all self-entitled regarding information we all think we should have, but I think its pretty fair to say Dell won't be forgetting its XPS line.
I'm really starting to feel the limits of my XPS 15z now that its hardware is a couple of generators behind, so a XPS 15 with Haswell will be very welcome, please take my money Dell! -
New Inspiron 7537/7737 Touch, Haswell and GT750m, but it seems they have lose quad core CPU.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...-inspiron-7537-7737-touch-haswell-gt750m.html -
I'm going to say that they're not a replacement for the XPS line. It did way too well for them to can it. Plus those new ones are all low end replacements for the 15/15R/17/17R.
Looking at the Engadget photos, the 15/17 look hyper thick :s -
I'd rather have a thick laptop than the throttling the L5221x was.
I rally don't understand complaints about thickness. A thin laptop looks nice, but it comes with sacrifices to the cooling, fan noise, upgradeability and keyboard quality.maverick786us likes this. -
I would buy a high-end XPS 17 inch model with the following
Resolution display higher then 1080P (like retina or higher since we are starting to see that)
thin (no DVD drive)
good SSD + HDD options
USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports (I know it's too much to ask for thunderbolt 2 especially since Dell doesn't even have thunderbolt ports in any of there pc's/notebooks (unless I am missing something?)
good graphics options
Backlit keyboard
There is more but those are the most important to me at least, Now I feel those options are not to much to ask for in late 2013. Ok, Maybe the display is little to much to ask for right now but judging from the ultra high displays that are starting to appear in smaller notebooks we can't be too far off. -
First break of the haswell XPS 13 and XPS 15
XPS 15:
QHD+ 3200 x 1800 display
Haswell Core i7
nVidia dedicated graphics
no optical drive
It looks similar to the L521x, but thinner like the XPS 13, and a silver keyboard instead of black. It looks pretty impressive. Hopefully it's a 750m GDDR5, and not something weak like the GK208 740M in the ENVY 15t-j000.
Dell XPS 13 and XPS 15 hands-on review: Haswell Ultrabook laptops - PC Advisor -
-
The article on PC Advisor is currently on embargo, according to the latest update. Some of the information that was on there this morning has now disappaered. I'll stop refreshing the page now till later!
Well they've scrapped the DVD drive, the screen sounds better, option of touch/non touch models. I'm sure the concern now is the fact its in a ultra-book form factor (which I love) but with that comes the whole heat/throttle issue, so we'll have to see.
Two main things I'm interested in, Dedicated GPU specs and Price! Though definitely looking like its going to be my upgrade choice over my XPS 15z. -
I should have pasted more of the info from the article! At least it's only on embargo until later today (10/2).
Hopefully the use of the 15 W Haswell ULV chips and the lack of an optical drive will leave plenty of space for a better cooling design than that of the L521x.
While I'm excited to see the QHD+ display, DPI scaling in Windows is still pretty lame. So I'm not sure if I'd want to jump on that bandwagon yet. We'll have to see if Microsoft can really improve it in Windows 8.1. For now I'm still pretty content with 1920x1080 (1920x1200 would be better) on a 15" laptop display. There might be a chance for a 1920x1080 screen option at a lower cost.
I actually like the Ultrabook direction for the XPS 15. I wasn't a fan of the L501x/L502x because they were so cumbersome size-wise. I'd rather see something like the Inspiron SE line offer decent graphics, quad-core processors, high res screens, good speakers, all packed into a desktop replacement format, and then reserve the XPS line as a thin and premium, albeit still powerful line of laptops. I upgraded from an m1530 to the L521x for that reason. Give me decent CPU-power and graphics, a really good screen, high build/material quality, in a thin and attractive package.
