    So I have heard many things about the m1330. But, so many things have been criss-crossed that I don't know what is true.

    This thread is meant to clear the air around the new m1330 soon to be released.

    What are the known specs of this new beast?

    What are the options, in terms of cpu, gpu, wireless, battery, harddrive, ect?

    And of course, pictures are always welcome.

    Matt

    * Slot-loading dual-layer DVD±RW drive!
    * Optional NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS / 128MB
    * WWAN option for Verizon, Sprint, or AT&T

    The price is going to be the killer for me I think. It's going to be a great laptop thats for sure but a top spec m1210 in the uk is around £2000 (just over $4000 i guess)

    If a 2.2ghz with 4gb or ram and a 7200prm HD and the 8400gs can be had for around £1500 - £1600 then it will be viable for me. I have a personal account manager with dell via my company so hopefully I'll get a little extra discount too.

    It really is a spectacular unit...I'm on our test unit right now. The screen is the best I've ever seen from Dell, something I think they needed to invest in, and they did. The WWAN in ours is Verizon, Rev A, and it's smoking fast. Honestly, I forget that I'm not on WiFi, it's that good.

    How is the resolution on the 13.3"? I really like a high-res screen (WUXGA or WSXGA+ on a 15.4", WXGA+ on a 14.1"). Would I be disappointed with the res. on this screen?

    Well, the DPI (pixels per square inch) is only slightly lower than it is on WXGA+ on 14" screen, so while its a bit lower resolution, its not too bad.

    Unless you are using the thing in your own network, or to take pictures, the 2 megapixel one shouldnt differ much(if at all) from the VGA one. After all, MOST video chatting is done in QVGA. Infact, the only way i am aware of, of actually getting a VGA chat(which is what the LED backlit m1330 has) is hacking skype... otherwise, that extra resolution is being wasted.

    Also, keep in mind that better resolution does NOT mean better quality. I can get a crappy webcam at a flea market that says its 2 megapixels, but it'll look like crap when held up against a glass lensed, VGA logitech pro webcam.

    good points, but the 1+mp (logitech) in my m1210 is ok quality, and i have a custom recording software that needs higher resolution. I cant imagine dell using a crappy one

    Yeah. This dell is VERY appealing... Has absolutely pant-busting specs! Everything I'd want, except for a multibay and maybe to get rid of that (DELL) logo :p

    Hopefully it's not hella expensive... looks like my choice will be between the Dell XPS M1330, the Compal IFT00, and #3-- buying a crap budget laptop for $500 and then buying a Penryn refresh next summer.

    What kind of battery life could I expect with the 32GB SSD configuration? I think I could manage running on 32GB--especially if I grab a USB drive to hook up at home and what not. I checked my drive capacity right now on this desktop, and I'm using 35GB out of my 80GB.

    I remember building this desktop five years ago--My last computer had a pathetic 4GB hard drive(from like 1998 or so), and I couldn't get my head around having 80 GB to play around with.. Looks like I still haven't, seeing as I'm at 35GB. To be honest, though, I reformatted six months ago, and am kind of OCD about uninstalling programs I don't use.

    I also wondering about the SSD. I'm not sure if I'd like a flash drive as my main drive, just seems too risky. Though I know of the advantages of using SSD, I'm just used to the ole disc. :-\

    Yep. If there aren't any 13.3"s that come with wxga+ then I will never buy one. Why is it that Dell can put a UXGA screen on a 15.4" but not even a wxga+ on a 13.3"?

    Nope. For 13" widescreen, there is only one resolution available: WXGA. ITs not Dells problem, its just that none of the screen manufacturers make a 13" screen with a higher res than WXGA.

    Well I was quite excited about the M1330 just like you guys but after seeing the pics I was very dissapointed. I HATED the wedge design. 2 usb ports wasnt exactly a plus either. But I did like the Mac optical disk drive, im glad dell finally adopted that feature. And the fingerprint reader was pretty cool but oddly placed. All in all I think dell could have squeezed a few more ports in there by throwing out the wedge look. So I went ahead an order a M1210 I think it looks much better than the M1330.

    I think the latest pics that were leaked were not that flattering to be honest. Im waiting to see the offical pics before deciding.

    The M1210 isnt without its problems and i feel the m1330 could well correct its failings.

    Now you know just as well as I do that theres no such thing as a new Dell that doesnt have its problems. Sure, the M1330 might eventually fix the M1210's problems but I dont think it will at the release. But I truely hope I am wrong. And I dont understand the failings you speak of.

    lol, well im on my 4th m1210 now after units going faulty.

    a few well documented general problems (not technical) include:

    Overheating (very common)
    Poor quailty screens (viewing angles & light bleed)
    Awful webcam in anything but bright light
    Tinny speakers

    Also dont forget the M1210 was never that highly reviewed if my memory serves me rightly (some were glowing though)

    Wht are you talking about on CNET its reviewed high. If you go on Dell's personal reviews there are like 2 reviews that are bad out of 120. With the speakers, what laptop does have good speakers besides the larger screen XPS's.
