The GPU (8400M GS) temp at normal activities (web browsing, no Flash) is around 80-85 C, and under stress it's 100 C (yes, 100 degrees, just like boiling water). The CPU at normal is around 50 and HDD around 47 degrees. I am going to call Dell, but I was wondering what should I ask them: to replace the motherboard with the graphics card OR to replace the computer? I don't have any extra warranty, just the default minimum. I bought it about 10 months ago, so it's still under the "main" warranty.
Thank you!

They will replace the entire board - if I'm not mistaken, the GPU is integrated into the M1330 motherboard. Even if you are out of the initial 1 year warranty, you will still be covered. See this link:

I wonder what are the realistic GPU temperature that I should expect from the new (replaced) GPU? Should I hope that the new GPU will not overheat or should I just ask them to put a mobo with the Intel GPU to avoid any possible headaches with another overheating GPU? Has nVidia fixed that overheating issue or are all the 8400 from the same faulty batch and Dell just has a stock of them from way before when?

It has not been fixed. Trust me, you don't want to know my current opinion of Dell replacement parts... lol.
In all seriousness though, just have them replace it and as always, monitor your system temps using HWMonitor. If they shoot up beyond norms (check the 1330 owners lounge for norm temps) then call Dell again. -
Thanks BatBoy!

no prob. hope it works out... at least you have another system in production.

They will replace the motherboard, which contains the graphics card. If it has issues again after your one year warranty, you're still covered for another year because you have a known defective graphics chip. So, your GPU is covered for two full years even though you have a one-year warranty.

paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
under stress, my GPU still hits 100 C...
if you b*tch about it, dell would change your mobo... -
Even if they change it, you would still experience high temps, unless you apply the copper mod.

HAHA dell just sent someone to replace my mobo because of the infamous nvidia problem
now...bluescreen on bootup, hard drive controller is broke on the new mobo
gotta love dell -

If you knew how much they pay those techs then I don't think you would slam them. They get paid for one hour even if they are at your place 3 hours fixing your laptop .

Erm, even a replacement motherboard will have GPU temps at least up to 105 oC, so theres no point asking for a replacement until you get the vertical lines..
XPS m1330 - GPU at 100 degrees, will Dell replace it?
