defective.....if under warranty, have Dell send you a replacement (easy to replace yourself), otherwise get one off e-bay, either the original silver one, or the black vostro 1400/1500 one.

It's unfortunate that you got a defective keyboard, good to know you are getting it replaced though. If your parents really like Vostro's black keyboard... you can actually install a black Vostro keyboard into an M1530 as its the exact same dimensions, connector, and everything. :)

one of many notebooks that I own I have in house World War 3 tried Vostro 1400 and also a quite new girly only used XPS M1330.

The difference in typing is so enormous I can't even describe it, Vostro being superior to XPS in every single way with much much better feel. As an IT guru I type around 14554 words per second so I should know ;)

I find XPS keyboard really inferior, very spongy, with not precisely defined feedback and with flex on few places. Vostro's one is a TANK, it can survive even oil crisis.

But I don't know if putting 1400 keyboard to XPS will help, it might as I've read. My oppinion is that Vostro has better build, is heavy as tank, undestructible, so even typing feels very solid. XPS is tiny aluminum baby so any press of a key will move whole notebook...

all in all I have never expected so much difference in keyboards with the same layout from DELL (I rank Vostro's keyboard amongs 3 best I ever typed on, together with Sony Z (but it lacks dedicated HOME&comp keys for me) and some Macbooks).

The extra firm backing of the vostro keyboard makes a big difference as well even installed in the m1330. No flex whatsoever!

i spilled water on my keyboard and got them to send me a new keyboard

believe the older one was revision A00 and newer one had no sticker(or cant remember)...

newer one requires more strength to push down, but is quieter (its like mufffed sound vs the louder 'snap' of the older keyboard)

that saying, my DVD drive failed too.... sigh.... thank god for accidental damage+warranty

ok then, I'll try to replace the keyboard on XPS (although it is new with absolutely no-dust/scratches) with the new one from Vostro 1400. Unfortunately I am unable to find one with UK layout on www.ebay.co.uk

Any other options? I really need big Enter key (UK layout) as I type so quickly the smaller one could be broken after one thousands hits (which I do in one minute ;-)

back to topic, thanks for any links if you find Vostro 1400 keyboard which is around 20 pounds, there are some "bargains" for 60-70 pounds but they don't sound as cheap to me indeed =D

I just got mine replaced about 10 minutes ago and i think i got this revision because they do feel harder to press and its quieter. My space bar might not wake everyone up at night.
