Hey,
Reading these forums got me worried as to the build issues with Dell.
I went tp the local Sony shop and found an almost equivalent Sony.
Same conf I wanted: 2 GHz CPU/2GB RAM/LED Screen. Only difference is the video card which is nvidia 7600.
Price was also same.
Think its worth the risk I am taking as far as build goes for the better video card. I have to mention that I don't game normally, but the 8400 CUDA support might come handy one day, as I do a lot of image/video processing programming.

i would go the m1330. its an amazing laptop. not being biased. i like sony laptops and thinkpads. I used both. The m1330 is really great tho.

There is just one small twist: I am moving to Europe for a year so I will have to receive one laptop and wont have time to wait for a replacement
-
The drawback is, build time is relatively long for the m1330. About two to three weeks or more.
Don't be so certain you need a replacement. In the unfortunate event, you don't have to worry about not having a laptop. Dell will send a replacement whilst you use the existing one. They also pay the shipping for the old one be sent back.
Also, you can get 3 year complete care with Global warranty if you're worried about using it overseas. -
Chaz was looking at a SZ and I checked out his link, it was cheaper than XPS and had both X3100 and 8400m GS. XPS are not cheap, shop around you can do better.

Where do you live? In some countries you may well find no support for your Sony overseas if you buy one so you will have to send it back to the country that you bought it from to have it serviced.
With Dell you get international warranty. -

The sony seems to be the better built machine. I checked it out at best buy before my m1330 came in. I considered it but it wasn't very visually appealing so i waited on my m1330 and im glad that i did. The sony isn't as visually stunning as the dell.
Thats not something i ever thought i'd say while comparing a vaio to a dell but its true.
I like the keyboard on the dell better also but the build quality just doesnt measure up.
Mine came in relatively good condition but there are far more plastic parts than i would have anticipated for a $2000 notebook. -
I really don't mind the Sony looks or feel. I am just feeling that I would be getting less for the same cash...
XPS m1330 or Sony SZ
