    hi!
First off I have searched, for that but didn't see anyone with the same problem.

My girlfriend has the XPS 1330 with LED screen. It very clear, bright etc. But when it's on battery power and the birghtness is on the highest setting the screen kind of flickers. Not that the picture is distorted but the brightness level filickers a bit, it's alittle annoying sometimes, especially when watching a movie for instance. If the birghtness is brought down a notch it's perfect, and if it's plugged in it doesn't have that problem either.
I hope I explained it well enough...
So has anyone had the same kind of problem and should I take it to Dell so they can have a look?

    Thanks!

I don't think cable as long as you don't physically touch it while it happens. Also further if it was a cable issue I would expect adjusting the screen angle would cause the same or greater problem. Plugged in or not. What power saving features are you running?

I think it's the Dell default setting when on battery, no long-life or battery saving settings, just normal.
And I'm not 100% sure but if I remember correctly then it happens on battery, regardless the power settings.

Power management features in the graphics. With the X3100, I have to use the drivers Dell provides. WIth the newer drivers from Intel, it has its own brightness settings, and Quickset will often get confused. If you change the battery brightness level in BIOs low enough (maximum brightness will be whatever you set it as) you can even make out the ten individual LEDs lighting up the screen. I am not sure if the Nvidia does the same thing, but I did not notice flickering at low levels.

Are you using Vista or XP?

It is probably due the OS scanning ports for any external monitors.

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere else that this is normal. it's a dubious "feature" the laptop uses to save power, that's why it never flickers while it's plugged in. i don't know the resolution or if there is one but there are other older threads on this forum about it.
