Oh Boy
I just got my new XPS m1530 and I love it when Im able to use it. I have a problem with the power button which does not respond to anything. The few times the system powered up, I changed the sleep/hibernate/shut-down mode to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is it a Vista or Trend Micro AV problem? Or, is the actual power button itself. My initial call to Dell support was pretty useless .
Its too bad; the XPS m1530 is a nice machine. I hope I can resolve this soon.

A suggestion, you might want to move your system specs in your signature instead of posting it in your posts... -
I'm thinking it's a hardware issue... The button sporadically works; maybe a loose connection? The DELL service rep suggested I remove the panel above the button and check the connection? Before I 'operate', has anyone else experienced this?
Nice system but this is fustrating - the laptop is only 2 weeks old... I think quality has gone out the door at Dell... -
If you're not comfortable with removing the panel by following the instructions in the M1530 Service Manual then you might want to get dell to send you a Tech if your warranty covers onsite service. You can also get dell to ship you a replacement unit if that's easier for you. You can keep your current one while they do that.
Dell mass customizes and ships hundreds of thousand laptop every year. Not all will be perfect... -
Ok - I'm back to loving my XPS laptop .
It was a hardware issue... I carefully took the front faceplate off and adjusted the media button connector (which was overlapping on top of the power button) and eureka! It was a fairly quick and easy fix. I will stick to what I said earlier though, that the quality of Dell (which use to be the gold standard) is slipping. I couldnt believe how fragile the parts were. This is my third Dell laptop and I have also owned Lenovo and Apple laptops. Each manufacture has its flaws, just a little disappointed .. -
Some serious build issues coming out of USA ??? seems to me
