    Hi,

I've had my M1530 for nearly a year now, but recently i've noticed that the Laptopis getting very hot, sometime too hot to touch.

All the heat seems to be coming from underneath the mouse pad

These are the now standard temperatures i'm getting from HWMonitor

    Core 0 - 51c
    Core 1 - 51c
    GPU - 76c
    HDD - 46c

    Are these temperures normal?

Also my one year warranty is up mid August. Do you think I could use the warranty to get Dell check it out?

    Thanks in advance
    Chris

Do you clean the laptop regularly?

Try cleaning the vents with compressed air. You can also try cleaning the fan blades n nearby regions with a cotton bud.

And I would recommend extending your warranty too. Not just for this issue, but in general its better / useful to have a warranty.

MY XPS M1530 is 8 months old. couple of days ago i had noticed that my laptop was getting extreme hot. then i called dell. just yesterday the engineer came and replaced my mother board and the hit sink. fan of the new hit sink has got more blades than the previous one. he showed me the vent, how it was blocked! then he gave me the tip to use a compressed air to clean the vent at least once in a month to keep the machine cool. i love dell specially for their on-site technical support.
So i think better get in touch with dell to sort that problem out.

    Thanks for the replies.

I called Dell today and they're are sending someone out to replace the heat sink and motherboard.

    Hopefully that'll cure it.

    Thanks again

    Hey Chris,

Although I have an M1730 the principals are essentially the same. Whenever the Dell engineer comes out, have a look at the inside of your computer - especially your vents. There'll be a ton of dust stuck in the fins if it's anything like my M1730. You can't see this usually, so you don't know it's going on. This is what's causing the heat more than likely - it was in my system anyway.

What you should do every 2/3 weeks is vacuum the fans (with the system off of course) and use a can of compressed air to try and push the dirt TOWARDS the fan (from the vents at the rear). If it's anything like my system, the fins are so small the dust can get out - so try and push them back and suck it out through the fans.

Doing this every so often should help to ensure the dust doesn't get too thick - when it gets thick it ends up being unmoveable :-(

Hope you get it sorted ;-)

Could be worth while to take photos of your current cooling unit and the new one when you get the job done to see if any changes have been made to these units..

For your old heat sink, the thermal paste probably dried up and so when your warranty expires just buy some thermal paste.
