    Hello.

If the case is (insignificantly) dented, do they refuse warranty?
Does opening the laptop and changing thermal paste void the warranty? Can they see if I have opened the case or not? If so, where can I get _genuine_ screws for my XPS M1530 laptop? I'm thinking about the screws which holds down the CPU/GPU/Motherboard plate (2 different types), and the ones that holds down the CPU cooler. Ebay is OK, but it must have international shipping.

Look at the pic in attachment - I need all the screwes circled.

EDIT: And can I use a P8400 CPU in the XPS?

Do the coolers on ebay usually contain screws, thermal pad and thermal paste?

I don't think they're going to care much about small dents in the case, but I never remember their take on replacing heat sinks and thermal paste. I think it might technically void your warranty, but then it's hard to tell if it's been done.

The screws that hold down the CPU and GPU heatsink are attached to the cooler itself. Why are you replacing this part? Does your old one not work?

You cannot use 1066MHz FSB processors in the M1530. This includes the P8400.

I have to replace the screws because the thread on one of the screws was broken so I drilled out a new one for a flat screwdriver. But since I have to return the laptop (not because of replacing the thermal paste though) I have to replace the screw as it's clearly that I have broken it and made a new thread in it.

And as of the replacing the thermal paste it is hard to tell if the heatsink has been removed, but you can clearly tell if someone has switched thermal paste because of the different color and consistency.

It would be nice if someone had experience from returning a laptop where there had been put on new thermal paste (which clearly voids your warranty).

Thank you for your help, and I'm sorry for my english.

you should have thought of all of this before you tinkered with your laptop. you should not have open it in the first place. thats what warranties are for, to call them if you have problems and dont do it yourself.

Yes, you are completely right. However, I still need the screws/heatsink. I wont probably ever open a laptop again.

You can't buy the screws individually. Just go buy another heatsink assembly from eBay. They're fairly cheap and widely available.

Ok thank you. Do they contain the thermal pad for chipset? If not, do anybody know where I can get a identical one? I'ts a blue one, like in the picture under.
