Same than what i got from the A09 BIOS ,

    82C GPU

    72C CPU

i do notice that for some reason the fan comes in low for a long time... but shuts off at the same temperature, maybe at lower speeds, takes more to take out heat= stays on longer, but makes less noise....

    Maybe same as A09

    ~ 58C Idle - GPU - ~ 88C Max
    ~ 48C Idle - CPU - ~ 72C Max

Guys you can get a drop if you replace the thermal paste on the cpu and gpu. Also you should look into undervolting your cpu's. Can really help with temperatures.

You'll also get the "void your warranty" that you've paid 200$ for some degree less... is it worth it? Anyway I won't never do that until my lappy is too old and I have nothing to do with it...

    I have a bit lower temperature on A12 I think ...

before 54 -> 78, 79 (Playing game for some hours)
now 54 -> 74 -> 76 depending on the temperature of the day (playing game for some hours too)

And I think it run much quiet than before.

Just been running some idle temp monitoring on A12.
Both speedfan and hwmonitor reporting ~
    gpu - 65/66
    cpu - 45

    AAH!!

I feel a rollback to A09 coming on..

    yep
but how do you roll the bios back exactly?
do you just install the previous version on top or something?

All you have to do is just run the A09 bios application like you did for the A12, I just have to find a download for it first though.

    downloading it is easy
just go to the dell drivers site
enter the XPS model or your tag
switch the falldown meny from Windows Vista to BIOS for operating system
hit the A12 bios drivers (but not download - just info)
and you should have an "old drivers" link to the right of the info

    or just open the ftp
    ht@tp@://@ftp.@[email protected]@om/b@ios/15@30_A09.EXE

delete all the @ symbols from the link

    now the weird thing is
I get a lot better performance with BIOS A09
but the temp is 3-4 degrees up

i guess i'm gonna stick with A09 and hope for the best

    hello everyone

Last night i did updated to A12 bios, but the temp was bit higher, in case of my gpu the idling temp was around 60-61c. then i rolled back to A09.

A09 is better in ma case, as gpu idles between 52-55c.

I'm still also in A09, therefore my hesitation to update to A12...

But, from what I've seen from you guys, it varies from user to user, so either way, I have to give it a shot... I'll do that in the morning though. :)

What was the reason A11 was pulled i just what back from A12 and
my max temp dropped from 76 to 74 in COD4 what was the big problem
with A11 anyway. if you dont care about the noise its grouse.

Especially since that was the only one with support for 8gigs of ram - and "new intel processors" (whatever the hell they are)

Its gone from the dell site, I assume its still on the beta site?

My laptop seems to run hotter with A12.
Idling around 50 C without laptop cooler.

With my custom built monster laptop cooler, my laptop idles at 35 C Cpu and 45 C GPU :D

A12 has given me the same problem twice now.. the wifi won't wake up after Hibernation. I reverted to A11.

Looking at idle temps is too simplistic a way of evaluating a new BIOS. I would not revert to an older one just because idle temp of A12 is a little more.

GPU failure (in the affected cards) is not caused JUST by temps, it is also caused by thermal cycles. More accurately it is caused by both, but the exact physics of the failure mechanism is too complicated to put in simple hot=bad terms.

Without knowing the exact interaction between the factors, it is impossible to say which BIOS is 'better'. The new BIOS may allow idle temps to run a little hotter in order to reduce the constant heating/cooling cycles caused by kicking in the fans so much.

Unless you have a very firm understanding of the issue surrounding the defective cards, and good knowledge of material engineering, the easiest thing to do is stick with the most recent BIOS. I have seen too many people go 'ZOMG my temps with A12 are a few degrees higher, back to A09' and this is way too simplistic a way of looking at a complicated issue.
