    XPS m1530 Durability?

    Hello,

    I'm wondering how long I can expect an XPS m1530 last? Not spec wise, but actual breaking/failing/decreasing in performance. (hard drive failing, parts coming apart, things stop working, battery dying, things becoming loose, screen starting to fade, etc.)

    The extended warranty options are too expensive for my budget so I just got the basic 1 year option. I just want this notebook to last me through college (4 years). Is this reasonable?

    Smiley, I am in the same boat as you. I just ordered mine and I'm going to college for the next four years. The extended warranties cost too much, so I got the one year. However, I'm going to treat this thing like my baby, so hopefully it'll last for atleast two years.

    If you take care of it I would expect so. I still have laptops that are ~10 years old, and that is because I treat my computers like I would treat a baby.

    Normally what I do is get the basic warranty. Over the period of that warranty you can judge the durability of the system. If you need to, just re-up for another year through Dell. Its a bit more money, but this way you don't pay for something you don't use.

    I went with three year. I excessively pound and drum on my laptops. Especially when im high.

    I've had this Pavillion DV9000us (piece of ****) for two years now, the HD went out and they just shipped a new one and I shipped the old one back in the same package and you just peeled the shipping label off the package and flipped it over.

    Is that the same kind of service you get with Dell?

    Yeah, but its a little more expensive. Hell, there are probally cheaper 3rd party websites that insure laptops aswell.

    Yes, except they give you a different label that is included in the box (assuming that you need to return th part.)
