Hello gang. Got a m1530 on Wednesday with a grainy screen. Not sure if that is what is souring me or just not expecting it to be so big, but now thinking about returning it for the 1420. Long story short, I bought a 2 gb stick of mem from Dell to put in to the m1530. Can I use it if I get a 1420? Looking it up on the site, the mem for he 1420 has the same manufactures' part number snpy9540c/2g as the m1530, but the dell part numbers are different. Any help here please?

You can use the same stick for the 1420.
-
Excellent, thanks for your help. Do you think the switch from the m1530 to the 1420 is a good idea? Big difference in weight, bulk?
-
What kind of travel do you do with it? For some, even the 1420 might be too big, as it's a fairly large/heavy 14.1" compared to it's competitors. The 1420 is less than half a pound lighter than the 1530, it's actually thicker than the 1530, and only about half an inch smaller on the other two dimensions.

cant believe that they still havent solved the grainy screen problem. the model hasnt even been launched for 15 days and grainy screen complaints are coming
-
personally, id rather have the m1530.

Well i ordered mine, and it is comming monday. I think its going to be great, i hope they have resolved the grainy issue though.
-
I'd assumed they were only offering the one size low-res screen because that was the only one they could be sure wouldn't be grainy.
Apparently that wasn't the reason. -
Yep...grainy as grainy could be. I couldn't believe it myself. Not only is it grainy, but 50% less bright as my E1505 with 1280 x 800 screen. I'm hoping that on monday when the screen is replaced I'll have that excitement I expected to have getting a new lappy, XPS even! Wish me luck!

Good luck.
I sure hope yours is a fluke and Dell didn't buy a big batch of bad screens for their M1530. -
well, at least the xps currently comes with 3yr in-home parts and labor warranty. so if the screen is grainy, you can keep demanding a new screen until it is clear (or so I hear).
