Try changing the video driver prior to calling Dell. ;)

Ok this is not good my system begins to auto shutdown when I run a game for a few second. I tried talking to dell tech support online but all they did was reinstalled my freaking graphic driver, at first everything was okay until couple minutes later the computer turned off again. I am not sure if the fan is broken because I no longer hear the loud revving of the exhaust fan. I am going to run a fan test and hopefully it passes...

Why don't you try what the Dell tech and I said? Switching to another video driver.

My m1530 kept doing a thermal shutdown. Dell sent a technician out and apparently one of the screw downs for the heat pipe popped off the motherboard. So the motherboard was replaced and the heat pipe made proper contact. No more thermal shutdowns.

i get my temps which to 68c then the fan brings them to about 58c and back up again, endless cycle, thats when idle. gaming, i get to 73c normally and the highest was 78c(highest) but the fan brings it down.
    all for gpu
cpu sometimes gets to like 62c

    are those normal temps?

Hey guys I got my motherboard and fans replaced yesterday. Everything seems to run fine now. Just a side note, never listen to what the online technical support ppl say. They were telling me it's normal to have 110c GPU temp in some instances...So try to speak to a tech on phone if possible and avoid the online tech. They are pretty clueless.

Just out of curiosity, what difference would a different video driver do? The only thing I can think is if the video driver controlled a fan speed rather than some other driver/setting in the system.

Sometimes tweaks optimize performance, allow better overclocking, some allow better stability but not as good overclocking. Typically you'd think newer drivers are always an improvement, but this is not the case for the 8600GT as while newer drivers do offer an improvement in one direction, its a step back in others.

In my experience, sticking with stock drivers (didnt reformat) worked perfectly fine and I'm able to max out assasins creed and CoD4 with no lag at all and well over 45+ XPS.

Typically people who are picky about drivers are:

    1) People who reformatted and dont remember or know what drivers came with their notebook or what they should install.
    2) Overclockers who want to know which drivers are the best for overclocking without kicking up fan, etc.
