Does any one with a XPS m1530 have a xD memory card that they can actually get to fit in the slot? If so, how? I have tried every which way and I can get it to go in only all jacked up and when it does it doesnt recognize any card is in the slot.

I have an Inspiron 1520 that should have a similar slot. If you take the dummy card out and look into the slot, there should be a thin piece of metal across the middle of the reader (horizontally), the top half is for MS cards and xD cards should go into the bottom half. The plate is spring loaded so you're safe using a little pressure. For me, the contacts face down when I insert it, I'm not sure about the m1530 as Dell is being slow at getting the HD display. Hopefully this helps.

Oh really, sorry then, I'd expect the XPS line to have more functional readers than the Inspiron lines.

Oops, I just looked in the manual, and it says it does have an xD reader, maybe there is just a knack to get it in properly. I couldn't get it to work anyhow.

wtf? the xD slot IS NOT behind the battery. That slot is for the sim card ONLY if you purchase an optional WWAN module (using the internet through your cell phone service provider from the sim card).

The memory card slot on the M1530 is a 8 in 1 card reader (SD, SDIO, MMC, MS, MSPro, xD, High Speed SD, Hi Capacity SD). It only read the older version of xD card. There are new type of xD card that is slightly different in size and wont work with most major card reader, included the M1530.

Your best bet is look for an USB card reader adapter for the new xD card on ebay.

    Facts about xD here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XD-Picture_Card

Follow this advice and your problems will be solved. I had the same issue as the original poster and for the life of me couldn't figure out how to get the card to read. The trick is to keep the card down in the lower half of the reader as you slide it in and add a little pressure. Works like a charm.

    Thanks Bchen!

What operating system did you try to read xD card?
I have a dual-boot system with Vista & Ubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu does not even recognize the card. But Vista both recognized the card and saw the contents.

As bchen06 said, the lower portion of the slot accepts xD cards.

    Viva M1530!
