I just got off the phone with a Dell salesperson in the UK. I asked him why the US site has 1440x900 LED but UK site has CCFL.

He said there had been a lot of problems with the LED panels so they were discontinuing them. He said the fact that they're available on the US site is because they still have stock, but once that stock runs out they too will discontinue.

I'm a bit sceptical. Have people had problems with the LED panels??
Or is he getting mixed up with the 'grainy problem'.

If it's the latter then I'm concerned because he has given me a free upgradefrom 1440x1050 CCFL to 1680x1050 CCFL. Isn't the latter the grainy culprit??

Yes they just got them so I doubt they're looking to discontinue already. It's so early that I doubt anyone even has gotten the LED for the 1530 yet.

Yeah, makes sense. So he was telling untruths. :)

I wonder how long before they're available in the UK? Does the Dell UK have a normal lag time behind Dell US launch dates?

I would be happy if the LED display comes but according to reviews there isn't much difference in lighting brightness. Sure it will improve battery life but with increased cost it nulls the savings.

Yeah? Are the LED screens any thinner/lighter like on the 1330s? I don't see any tech specs listed yet. If it's not atleast thinner I'd see no point spending the extra $$$. Battery life improvement in real world is minutes, not a big deal and not worth an extra $50-$100 over the CCFL options which could be put towards more performance options.

I guess this is a question of flipping a coin - if I am not mistaken, you guys got Penryn in your 1530's before us, the US folks; now it is your turn to wait :D

Still no sign of a LED display in Europe, huh? :(
