    firstly, a hippocracy disclaimer - i posted yesterday saying how happy i was with my xps despite a couple of niggles. I stand by that.

    Now, yesterday i phoned in about my HD cos it was noisy - the hitachi7k200 200gig 7200rpm. Its a good HD i know.. anyway dell were all too happy to send me a seagate momentus replacement today. The HD is quieter (yay) BUT it seems to run WAY hotter ??? Like, I can leave my xps on doing NOTHING, maybe My Computer is open but thats it.. and the fans come on and off.. where is all this heat coming from. Now i only had my hitachi for about 36hours, but im pretty sure it didnt run as hot as the seagate.

    Any comments on teh running temps of the seagate VS hitachi - it might not be too late to get my old hitachi back..

    I have Seagate 160 GB 7200 RPM, and it runs at 44 Celcius all the time. I don't know how cool your hard drive supposes to run. If it didn't overheat, I would not worry about it.

    I was doing some HDtune testing yesterday, noticed the temp was around 36C.

    FFS! so its true. The seagate does run hotter. Mine wont go lower than 41 - did hdtune benchmark and it went up to 46 or so...

    i am assuming that this is the hitachi that u have ??

    blah now im considering asking for my old HD back - rather cool and noisy than quiet and hot.. flip i dunno.. it just annoys me that the fans have to come on when the pc is literally doing nothign.

    I've had the Hitachi for about a year now... had it in my Vostro 1500 and now into my XPS m1530. Pretty good performance IMO. Running at 34 degrees idle, Gets into 41-44 when gaming.

    Seagate = Quieter
    Hitachi = Slightly Louder, More Power Saving
