Well I bought a xps m170 a few months ago when it was going for a good deal only $1350. About a month ago I got a letter saying I won a xps m1710, figures about time I finally get around to finally buying a notebook a few months later I win one! :D

    Well I recieved it today, its a m1710 w/core duo t2400, 7900gs, 2gigs ram.

My question is how does my m170 I bought compare with the one I won?

    My m170 has a pent m 760, 7800gtx, 1 gig of ram.

Is it much faster or about the same? Thanks

the go 7900 gs is gonna be almost exactly equal to the 7800 gtx - the trick is power consumption.

because the 7900 is based on a smaller manufacturing process than the 7800, its gonna suck up less battery power, and run cooler and quieter

    send me your m170.

    no, seriously.

also, the m1710 obviously has a cooler body.

"As with past XPS models, the XPS M1710 destroyed CNET Labs' gaming benchmarks. In our Doom 3 test, it delivered 25 percent more frames per second (fps) than the XPS M170; with F.E.A.R., it notched 72fps compared with the XPS M170's 44." (thats on a 7900 gtx)

Very lucky! As far as graphics power goes, both notebooks will play the latest games about the same... The Core Duo is faster though. The 7900GS is an excellent card. It uses much less power than the 7800GTX, yet runs just about as fast, and has the overclocking potential to be just about right in line with the 7900GTX. Enjoy your new notebook :D

What hardware is that and whitch driver do I need to get for it?
