I recently re-installed the sims 3 onto my system i first played this game on my laptop when it 1st came out for months with no problems to speak off! but eventually i got bored and uninstalled it. my girlfriend enjoys this game so i installed it for when she stayed round as she enjoys it.

but everytime i play it after about 20 minutes ( if that ) my laptop will just turn off without warning and when i reboot it i get a warning saying my system over heated and shut down! now my laptop gets hot when im in bed and i have never had that warning. so i moved to my computer desk just to play it and pluged in my USB turbo fan cooling tray and I STILL GET THIS PROBLEM it dosn't feel hot and it only does this while playing this game!!

any idea's / advice would be helpfull i am at a lost for words! i would ring dell up but i am out of warrenty and in al honesty i would rather speak to someone who can understand english ( no offence intended that is jsut what happens )

I look forward to your feedback and advice on my situation.

lol, I guess I should be more clear:
What video card do you have (is it nvidia)?

Can you try updating the driver for the video card.

I'm thinking it's either a software problem or the video card is failing.

    Download the driver from here:
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers

If that doesn't help, test your video card with ATItool (google it). Use atitool to scan for artifacts, if you get a lot of artifacts then it would probably mean your video card is bad.

Do you have the problem with any other games?

Well i have just had my systems gpu and motherboard replaced by a dell tech today cause of overheating. When he dissasembled it the amount of dust and shiet inside was unbelievable.I use compressed air to blow it out but its like cotton wool in texture so u have to have it open.
The temps whent down by a huge margin, altho this type of notebook does run hot!
Also use that fan utility called http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html.You can force the fans to high speed and monitor temps.
Drivers can make a big difference in speed and temps so try 179.48,it helped alot.
Lastly join our thread for us owners of m1710 its on here ,good luck
