    Hello all,
When I ordered my studio xps 1647 couple weeks ago I forgot to upgrade to a 9 cell battery which my laptop came with the 6 cell instead. I bought a third party 9 cell battery from battpros.com which was for my laptop. When it arrived the other day i put it on my laptop which was a perfect fit and turned it on. Upon booting, my laptop beeped and stated that this battery cannot be recognized press F1 to start normally. Finally to the desktop it said that the laptop does not recognize the battery and that it will not charge properly. Can I still use this battery and how can I bypass all of this error messages. If it turns on and let me boot to windows i believe there is a way to bypass this. Or maybe not, please let me know if this is safe to use? Thanks in advance! I don't want to waste $200 on a dell version.

Have you tried updating BIOS? Sometimes this affects how 3rd party batteries work with a notebook. See what the most recent BIOS rev is for your system and update to it if you haven't.

If you have the most recent BIOS then I would next contact the company you purchased the battery from and discuss the issue with them. If they stated that it is confirmed to work with the system then they should offer you options to get it to work, replace, or refund your money.

In general I would be careful. While this battery issue may be harmless, there is always the potential to damage your system.

Yes I've updated the recent BIOS for this system. I called them up today about it and they said there is a way to bypass it and they were going to send an email within 24 hrs. I bet you they will say the same thing you said. But if worst comes to worst, they better give my money back.

There used to be a BIOS setting for the adapter to stop nagging when it wasn't the proper wattage, perhaps there is something like this for the battery as well.

You might be lucky and see the F3 prompt to ignore the message when you get the F1 to continue . If so, try that.
