So I had an order in for an XPS16 at the tail-end of when RGB screens were still somewhat orderable. The order sat in limbo for a while and languished. The ship date kept getting pushed back and eventually I realized it was just never going to happen and awaited word from Dell to that end. I didn't want to cancel on the oft chance that I might magically get one of the last of the screens. Anyway, a couple weeks ago (about 8 weeks after original order date) the order finally disappeared from the system. Just disappeared. No call, no email, nothing. I noticed it on a Saturday and left a message with my rep. He got back to me telling me that it was canceled due to the obvious reasons. I told him I would get back to him when I had time to re-do my order. Anyhow, it's been a couple weeks (I'm not in a hurry) and I've just got an email from Dell telling me about the canceled order.
Amazingly it's not a form letter and the person goes on and on about why it was canceled and what my options are. blah blah blah.
So here's the weird part. In the email he states that the configurations on the home side can't be ordered through the business side (I have a Dell Business Credit account so must order through the biz side), implying that even through a rep I can't get configurations not laid-out in the biz website. I pretty much know this to be false, and am awaiting information from my new sales rep (my old one transferred to server sales in this process) but I am asking confirmation from people here.
Is there any reason I can't get an XPS16 as configured on the home side (or EPP as I want an i7-620M) through a rep on the small biz side?
Have you/others had personal experience doing the above?
I essentially know the answer but just want confirmation that I'm not crazy. I should really post the email I received as it's somewhat comical the amount of incorrect info I was given.
Thanks folks.
