Hey i was playing some half life 2 without my power cord hooked up and after a couple minutes my computer totally shut off. Is this a safety measure or is something wrong. It works fine with the power cord in btw

sounds like overheating. make sure your system has enough space to cool when gaming. Some people experience overheating problems with the NVIDIA 8600GT card, although not normally as early as you. I've been amazed at the number of people that try and play graphic intensive games with their laptop on their bed or something... the poor thing needs air.

I'd download a temp monitor so you can see what is going on. If problems persist or if your temps are far to high (much higher than 80 underload is a bit worrying), call dell.

thing is it only happens when its not plugged up to an outlet. i can play connected to my AC adapter for hours. kinda seems like a voltage issue maybe

If you have had your 1530 for less than 21 days of date of invoice, you should call Dell and ask for a replacement.

If w/in 21 days of invoice, you get a new replacement/or refund.

    After that, it's a refurb.....

I have the same problem, only I have a X61 and play Halo. You should get a program to monitor your CPU temperature first, then make any decisions.
