    Hey all,

New to the forum, but looking for some quick help. (I posted this in the main forum, sorry for the double post. I think this may be more appropriate)

I've been searching for a desktop replacement laptop for a while ago, and yesterday settled for a Inspiron 17R, from the Dell Outlet, (with coupon) for a total of 570.

I was pretty happy with it, until I saw the XPS 15, with FHD, (1080p, I hope!) available! However, the coupon had expired and this new setup was to run me $840 shipped.

I ended up cancelling the Inspiron and going with the XPS, but now I'm questioning my thought pattern. Does this make sense? I don't feel like I'm getting a great deal, considering a new XPS15 would be around the same price (799), just without the 1080p.

I can still cancel my order, and start over, but wanted to hear what everyone thought? Did I make the right decision??

    Matt

If it definately has the 1080p screen i would keep it. They are unavailable to order new at this present point in time due to under supply.

Yes and it hasn't been out too long, so it won't be much older than a new one, and hopefully it has been checked out thoroughly since it is refurbished. As long as you can get the same warranty options, it should be good.

HD+ is the 720p screen FHD or Full HD is 1080p no questions about it. I would definitely take the XPS in a heart beat at that price. Nice find!

Edit: And don't listen to the "return it" stuff, if it's not 1080p call and explain that FHD or Full HD can only mean one thing in the computer industry and that is 1920x1080 screen and demand that you receive one, if the order states it's FHD then it has to be that or higher :D

Screen part number/description (on verify screen at checkout) shows as......
P5XP1 15.6 inch Full High Definition + True Life Display

    Googling "xps 15 P5XP1",
you get xps 15 systems for sale on eBay with Dell P/N P5XP1, but this description...

P5XP1 Module, Liquid Crystal Display, 15.6HDF, True Life, Lg Philips Lcd, NIMOY

Aren't 15.6 HDF the 720p screens, whereas 15.6 FHD the highly sought after 1080p screens?

"HDF is not FHD (though I've never heard of HDF), so likely you will get the regular 768p WLED panel that you paid for." See full discussion below.

Nope, the true life 15.6" is the same brand/model line of screens used in the M15x Alienware that are 100% 1080p and they are friggin amazing screens.

Another opinion that you are probably getting a 1366x768 screen....

Huh interesting, it could be possible, I've never seen a single True Life screen used in a Dell or Alienware product that wasn't 1080/1200p. I'd just wait to see what you get, if it's not the 1080p call and just explain to Dell you were under the understanding that it was the 1080p panel as their website/parts make it hard for a customer to understand and see if they might offer it to you ;)

    Think about it.
    1. The 1080p screens are OOS for at least another month for new xps 15 systems.
    2. It has been reported by xps 15 owners there no 1080p screens available for warranty repairs.
    3. Yet there are large numbers of xps 15 systems "at unbelievable prices" on Dell outlet with 1080p screens?

I just think they should have to show the resolution like was on my order:

    17.3 in HD+ WLED TL (1600x900)

There's no way someone can't know what screen they are getting then.

If you go into your account and click the order number, what does your screen line on the components list in place of what mine shows:

    318-0189 17.3 in HD+ WLED TL (1600x900)

Will everyone who ordered a 1080p screen for their 15 have the same ###-####? If so, then just find out who else has the same ###-#### and see what kind of screen they got.

I have returned 2 XPS 15 notebooks. The first had faulty screen hinges and the second a "washed out" screen. Both notebooks had FHD (1080p) screens.

First time poster, just wanted to put in my experience. I ordered my XPS 15inch just before Christmas, when everyone was lamenting the lack of a 1080p display option. The XPS 15 was not customizable at all (with the particular promotion they were running at the time), but it looked like a good deal based on the hardware so I gave it a shot and ordered it.

The display is listed as "Liquid Crystal Display, 15.6HDF, Light Emitting Diode, True Life, V3, Lg Philips Lcd" in my online Dell account system configuration tab.

This computer has the 1920x1080 display. At least in my case, HDF does not equal 720.

Just to add to this, since my order is scheduled to come today.

Here is what it says in my Dell Order screen:
    Module,Liquid Crystal Display,15.6HDF,True Life,Lg Philips Lcd,NIMOY

I think a lot are confused by this murky Dell Description, so the only way to see will be later today/tonight.

I am hopeful since these computers showed up after the coupon expired, as Dell probably did not want to put their newer stuff on their with the coupon.

I am also nervous because the outlet is flooded with the same description (was not the case when I first ordered), and there's probably no way that they are all the 1080p ones--darn.

Hmmm... in my experience, "true life" is used for the 720p display.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think. And now the 1080's are back on the Dell Website (to order new)---so if I have to, I can try and scream and yell (which I will), in order to not be duped by Dell (since their initial description was so misleading).

Dell Outlet Sales (866-492-6721) just confirmed ALL of the xps 15s in inventory are the 15.6 HDF LCD screens. That is, they are 1366x768.

I told them I wanted to purchase an xps 15 and my only requirement was that I wanted a 15.6 FHD LCD screen, and they did not have any.

I then called Dell Parts (x7244161) and asked if they had any 15.6 FHD LCD screens in stock. They do, but they are super-expensive!

    15.6 HDF (Parts # iJC2N) ... $99.99 (1366x768)
    15.6 FHD (Parts # X7C4) ... $364.99 (1920x1080)

    Hope this info helps!

ARGH!!! Well, now to figure out what my next step is. I'm going to have to try and call a supervisor, because I feel completely duped. Is it worth keeping it if they give me some sort of discount (especially now that there's another 15% coupon out there), or do I suck it up, and order a brand new one, for 4-500 more. (or do I drop it completely and get an Asus or something.)

Decisions, decisions, decisions---ones I did not want to make.

    everyone was right---wrong screen.

I think I'm going to send it back--- I feel used.

and Dell India Support is not helpful, which frustrates me more.

Does anyone know a good phone number to even call for this? The guys are a joke.

You were correct. The return was painless....

However, I'm a sucker, and Dell Outlet smartened up, and finally began to list the resolutions for the XPS 15. They have the 1080p RGB screens listed, and there is a 15% coupon! And since they let me return the 1st one without any sort of issues, I figure I'll give it one more shot.
