Last month, when i was trying boot my xps-15(one and half year old), i got a blue screen problem and it told that OS is not found. So i ran diagnostics & got a result that my hard disc is problem. I restored to a earlier point since there was an boot option for that.

since then my laptop was not working well, frequently i had to restore to the last restore point.
But from yesterday i was not able to boot as there is no option to boot.

Is my hard disk dead? If so please suggest me a hard disk
can i change it to 1tb, 7200rpm, currently having 500gb, 7200rpm hard disk?
    Current config: 6 gb DDR3 SDRAM,core 2nd gen i5-2430M processor.
    thanks in advance

Yes, you'll be able to run a 1TB drive. If you don't need all that space however, I'd recommend a 120 to 256GB solid state drive, they are kind of pricey for the amount of storage, your computer will be much faster. Don't buy one manufactured by OCZ though, I've had nothing but trouble from the OCZ drives. Intel and Samsung are your best bet.

Agree with everything said here. 256GB SSDs aren't even that expensive anymore: you can probably find something as low as $150 if you look hard.

    Chandru,

I would start here. I'm not sure the maximum height for your model, but had no problem installing a 7.5mm SSD.

Really, I'd consider a solid state. You can install a spindle drive in place of the optical drive, and have tons of storage. That's what I did. You can find some information in this thread.
