    I have a Dell XPS13 (2015 model) with the Win10 upgrade.

I have been having lagging/jerking/pausing issues with it when it is multitasking. Even the mouse movement is jerky and lagging. I've noticed it happening when I'm copying files, downloading on uTorrent or when the unrar program is unraring. Pretty much happens all the time when multitasking.

Could I please get some suggestions on how to break down the cause? To find the problem.

Here is the screenshot of processes when just surfing around on Firefox:

Here is the screenshot of processes when copying over a file, the file is 1.5Gb but the size of the file doesn't seem to matter just as long as it is copying.

note: Norton has already been removed, first thing I did when I got the laptop, I've paid for an Avast subscription. Also tried this, switched off all components of protection in Avast then did a copying process. Didn't make a difference.

    Thanks in advance!

Are you copying to/from a USB drive by any chance?

In general, slowdowns of that nature (where the mouse cursor stutters) indicates that you are CPU bound somewhere. This can occur if you're using non-optimized motherboard chipset, network, disk controller, or ISB drivers, depending on which devices you are involving in the transfer process.

The second screenshot actually shows (50% CPU usage) that both physical cores of your laptop CPU are completely pegged... Indicating a CPU bound scenario.

I'd say to first verify all drivers are updated. Then I'd recommend you just temper your expectations on the multitasking capabilities of this laptop. It's using a low-power dual core CPU, and isn't nearly as powerful as to what you may have become used to in higher-power desktop or laptop parts.

Thanks for your reply. However, I find it hard to believe that a 2015 XPS13 laptop cannot handle copying files task and surfing the internet at the same time. And to suggest I lower my expectation of it to be able to perform that (simple) a task is asking too much.

kent. You have a lot of posts and a fairly good reputation on this forum. Respect to that however I'm sure you would have better expectations of a 2015 laptop then that. My older laptops with lower powered CPUs have been able to handle more (much more) without the stuttering.
