Hello all. I've been on the fence for the XPS13 for a while and today I see that a GeForce N10m GS 512mb Video option is available.
This video isn't listed on Notebook Check so I'm unsure where this card sits performance wise.
Can somebody please chime in as to how worthwile this card is over the previous GeForce 9500m option.
Thanks.

N10m is Dell's name for the Nvidia GeForce G 210m.
-
Ahh...thank you for confirming...I was just getting to figure this out after sifting through several threads.
One last thing... XPS1340 is the same as XPS13? Just different markets? -
Soo...the consensus is that this is only a marginal performance over a 9500ge. Even though the 210m is at the very top of the list of Class 3 cards?
Arrgh. I think I'll hold out and see what the HP DM3 with an ATi HD3200 does for us. -
The 210 has advantages other than raw performance. It's a single card manufactured with a 40nm process rather than two cards at 65nm. Its power consumption is 14w compared with 25 (12+13) for the 9500ge, which is a combination of integrated 9400 and discrete 9200 cards. In a laptop known to have heat problems, that's a big deal. It also won't suffer from the "micro-stuttering" introduced by the SLI mode of the 9500.
But, yeah, it won't double the framerate or anything. -
xps1340 can mean xps13 but xps13 can also mean xps1330 so sometimes if you google xps13 you will get results for both xps1340 and xps1330
-
Does that mean that the battery life will be similar to be when the 9500m runs only on the integrated graphics?
-
Actually, I spoke too soon when I wrote that. The 210m is also a Hybrid SLI configuration with an integrated 9400. Battery life is not very different, but performance is improved.
-
Hmm...I guess we'll have to find out about the micro-stuttering you mentioned earlier then because of the Hybrid SLI.
Anyhoo, the days of deals has passed and I'm patiently waiting for what wonders will befall us on Oct. 22nd. -
I don't think we will experience that much mirco stuttering as the 9500m GE. Both of the gpus in the 210m gives around 2000 3dmark06. They are much equal to each other. However the 9500m GE's 9200m is around half of the 9400m. So it iwll stutter even more.
-
Actually the 9200m gs is almost identical to the 9400m.. it scores 2000 in 3dmark 06..
The 210m is a fair bit better than the 9400m so I suspect microstuttering will be more of an issue, and frame rates not so bad..
I think dell should've gone with using integrated gpu on battery, and the dedicated on mains.. similar to the 15 and 17 inch macbooks. -
Well.. we are not sure yet because eric ran the test on linux. Maybe the score will change when he runs the 3dmark06 in the windows
-
No, I ran it under Vista SP1.
-
actually a dell rep told me that prices will increase anywhere from $50-100 to cover dell's expense on supporting win7 and the inevitable influx of calls they'll be getting
-
He probably told you that because he wanted you to order Right Now.
-
Yeah one of the sales reps I talked to told me that the Windows 7 upgrade option ended in two days when it blatantly said on the site otherwise. Their job is to convince you to buy now, not later.
Anyway, can we expect any changes or maybe more hardware refreshes before Christmas? Is overheating still a problem? Right now I'm debating on getting this, or possibly an HP DV3 that will supposedly come with a touchscreen.
XPS13 - Nvidia GeForce N10m GS 512mb now optional
