Hi Guys:
I am facing right now a really tough problem. I have tried everything I know in order to diagnose what is going on but I have been unable to find out what could possibly be wrong.
I am running Windows 7 Professional (x86) and get BSOD every once in a while, specially while I'm playing online poker (yeah, i've lost quite a few hands and money thanks to this)
I've taken the minidump and debugged it and here is what it says. It points out to audiodg.exe, I suppose this has to do with the audio driver but how could this be the issue?

By the way, I ran orthos for 29 hours straight (blend test) and had no errors whatsoever.

Did you try re-seating the ram?
maybe you should just backup your system and perform a clean install. -
Yep, tried re-seating the RAM and the clean install I already did it (formatted and installed every proper driver etc)
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
how about a BIOS update?
Did you ever get the problem on any other version of windows?
Or is this just a win7 thing? -
I have the latest BIOS...
I do remembet I never had this issue in Windows Vista... however, I then installed Win7 and used for it quite a while before this happened.
One important note is that this started happening a few days after i had my motherboard replaced (my mobo got burnt, nvidia card thing).
¿Could this be a mobo issue? I feel this is more of a software issue than hardware since orthos ran 29 straight hours, dell memory diagnostics do OK etc.
¿Could this still be hardware related? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
It could be hardware, but you should test the software first I think.
Can you try to use vista drivers (they should work with win 7). -
I get the feeling it might be a Windows 7 / Sigmatel Drivers incompatibility problem but wouldn't lots of people be suffering the exact same thing?? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Does the sigmatel website offer drivers?
If it is a hardware issue, then maybe taking the notebook apart and reseating everything could fix it.
Also check that none of the pins on the CPU are damaged.
Unless you still have warrenty. If you do then you might want to contact them for another replacement. -
What I would do:
. collect more minidumps
. compare them
If all those point to driver faults and all are related to audio, you can be almost sure that's the issue. If every time you get different crash causes and in arbitrary components, it's a stability issue. -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
what setting do you run in orthos, if it's small FFTs then try the blend setting so that your ram is also stressed.
-
There is an issue with audio drivers for M1330 XPS with Win7,try using Vista audio drivers 6.10.0.5866 or uninstall and delete audio drivers reboot and let Win7 install the default drivers while on line. Also you may want to check out from here IDT Audio drivers There also one other option is to try the Studio 1555 Win7 audio drivers.
This only happens while your on said web site Poker?
Have you any other audio devices connected and working when this BSOD hits you chat apps ,mic etc? -
- I don't know why but this seems to happen only when I am playing online poker (pokerstars or fulltilt, playing on any and I get crashes).
- No aditional devices or mics, chat, etc, connected when this happens. -
OK, so my pc has crashed 3 times tonight (all 3 times while playing poker).
All minidumps are identical (they all refer to audiodg.exe)
I am seriously considering formatting with windows vista and seeing if the problem occurs there as well (if that is the case then we are clearly talking about hardware issues)
Any further ideas? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Have you tried changing your internet browser?
-
Oh yeah uninstall any codecs packs (k-lite , etc) that you may have installed if you do try Win7 codecs...
-
I will give your codecs a shot before formatting into vista. -
Well, running Vista Ultimate x86 and so far so good... however I did have periods of time in my windows 7 installation where I also wouldn't get crashes so nothing is for sure yet.
Hope this thing doesn't crash so I can know for certain that the whole deal was Windows 7 Drivers -
Now back to the issue..
Run memtest and let it go for a couple of passes. This sounds more like a memory issue to me than audio. (I build computers for a living). If the memory checks out, try reinstalling your audio drivers.
If it is true that people with your machine have an audio issue in Windows 7 it could very well be that as well.
Good luck! -
I also thought the issue might have been memory, however, up to now I've had no BSOD's since i installed vista. Seems like the whole thing might have been down to Windows 7 being unstable/incompatible with my audio drivers.
Will post a final update when I've played many many hands of poker to see if this really was the fix (quite amazing I must say, yet dissapointing since I really liked Windows 7 but well, I can give it a try when the final version is released) -
This is really amazing...
So far, no BSODs whatsoever. I think the whole problem was Windows 7 related then. -
-
So far absolutely no BSODs -
I installed Win7 Pro the day it was released, a week ago. Within hours I had my first BSOD, related to audiodg.exe
