So i just had a look at the UK site for this laptop, and it has changed nearly constantly, from about 8 options down to 2, 1x i5 and 1x i7, now it has changed to 2 options, both i5. Only difference is one has a 1TB Harddrive and the other a 750GB harddrive? Anyone have any idea about why there is not an i7 available?

Also as I'm not as adept in my knowledge in hardware so I'll just ask a couple of questions.

Having a Harddrive with a higher RPM, does this increase in speed (750GD has 7.2k RPM whereas the 1TB has 5.4k RPM both have 32GB cache drive thingys)

And the having an i5 or an i7 in the xps, would I be right assuming that the i7 would have faster running speeds, with the downside of getting hotter and shorter battery charge time and the i5 would be slightly slower, less heat emmitions and longer battery life?

    Thanks for any replies.

(I do know about the throttling and wifi issues and I have been following the owners thread and display thread for the last couple of months, just joinedNBR a couple of weeks ago, but still have my heart set on this laptop, that being the reason I am happy to wait for a fix to be cut in at manufacturing stage before I purchase)

At a complete wild--guess, maybe the web-site tracks hardware availability, and they're currently out of stock on different parts?

    UK owner here!

Have a look on the UK business site. I e-ordered my L521X to my home address without needing to supply any kind of business credentials, and was able to get i7, 512MB SSD and 8MB RAM. All options that were unavailable on the home site.

The only things that appeared to be needed where a buisness name, but could that potentially create problems with support and warranty?

I dont plan on ordering it until they have fixed the wifi problems (and addressed the screen ones too)

Is any other countries experiencing the same with the non-buisness side of things?

Don't think so. I ordered mine using personal CC with delivery under my name to my home address. I also opened a case with tech support about the wifi under my name with a Hotmail addy and there were no problems.

Well, ignoring the fact that tech support knew nothing about the wider problem of course
