XPS15 - Anyone removed the antenna cover without damaging it?

Reading page 77 of the service manual removing the antenna cover seems to be simple procedure; display hinges at an angle, pull the cover to the side and lift it up. However, no matter the angle of the display hinges the cover on my device will not budge. In the teardown guide on ifixit for the XPS13 it seems to be the same mechanism as on the XPS15, they did however use a prying tool to get it off.

Anyone know how to do this properly?

 

engineers tap in the right direction as it gets very well seated in assembly. As you are looking at it screen up facing you it needs a swift tap on the left side to persuade it to the right.

Of course, the screen needs to be off the laptop, the position of the hinges isn't stopping it, you just need to get it moving then have the hinges positioned so it can slip about 1cm then it lifts off very easily.

How come you want it off?

 

Okay, thank you. I wanted to change wireless card and one of the metal rings from the old card came off, like this. I could not get it out, so I bought a new antenna module from ebay.

There seem to be quite a lot of force needed for the tap, think I need to buy a hammer. Will try again later today.

 

No hammer needed, tbh pushing on it should be enough, just takes more force than most people are comfortable with.

 

Not much force was needed. The antenna cover was stuck in the frame of the screen, just sat a needle between the antenna cover and the frame and a little tap was enough.
