XPS15. I set the backlit keyboard for "Never Off." I also try "15 min."

This works for a while, then it resets itself to turn the keyboard light off in 1 min.

Is there a fix? Even a registry fix?

You need to do a proper restart/shutdown after you submit the change.

I tried restarting immediately after setting the keyboard lighting for 15 minutes.

Still the same problem. After a while, it resets for 1 minute.

I change the power plan to High Performance two days ago, and changed the keyboard lighting to "Never Off".

It looks like this fixed it!

    Thanks, Neub

Are you using fastaccess? It controls power saving features and can override windows settings. I found out after having the same problem you are. If you are using fastaccess, disable the power saving features and let windows take over.

Nope, I got the cheap 720 screen without any facial recognition software.

During my first week of ownership, I did find a way and did download the facial recognition software from Dell and tried it out. I found it goofy and worthless, so I uninstalled it.

Maybe there's some remnants still in the registry? Who knows? Anyway, I'm sure the "1 min" problem existed from day one --- before I fooled around with fastaccess.

I do a Windows Start search for fasta* and find nothing.

At any rate, this is just a minor, but persistent, annoyance.

In the next month or so, I'll probably get around to wiping and reformatting the hard disk, and reinstalling a clean Windows 7.

If that fixes it, I'll let you guys know.

    Meanwhile, keep the suggestions coming!

(I am kind of surprised that just me and 2 other guys have this issue)

I did a fresh os install because of the ssd, so I may not have all the apps you have. I know the fastaccess is a power nazi, so I had to disable the power saving features in it. Then I changed windows settings, and everything works like it should.

I have a XPS 17 and have this same problem. Quickset is on during the start up and when I modify the backlight off timer I still get it returning to 1 min after I restart the system or do a shut down.
Anyone have any info to fix this?
    Thanks.

This weekend I tried to do a repair on the Quickset software with the CD that comes with the XPS. This didn't fix the problem. After spending an hour on Google and the Dell forums searching for other possible fixes, I am at my wits end. Something so simple as remembering a setting shouldn't be so easily messed up.
If anyone has a fix for this, it will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks you.

I was having this same problem. This is what worked for me. IF you are using a Logitech USB mouse,

Start msconfig, Start Up tab, un-check Logitech Setpoint/KHALMNPR.EXE, Apply, OK, Restart

No more keyboard resetting to 1 min problem. It was aggravating me too til I found this fix.

    Hope this helps.

Nope still no solution. I have to manually set it back to "keep it on" everytime I wake it up from Sleep or Hibernate. I'm pretty sure there are others who are affected by this.
