Man, what the hell...?
My XPS15 2nd gen started making a chirping noise (we'll call it the chirp) in seemingly different parts of the laptop. It was getting progressively louder and more frequent, so I contacted Dell and they sent out a replacement. Now, this one is slowly showing signs that it too has the chirp. It chirped twice on me so far. Anyone else experience this? My specs are listed in my sig.
Also, Dell, is the worst. I spent over 5 (cumulative) hours on the phone with them and it took over a month to ship my laptop. Customer service reps hang up on you, transfer you zillions of times, hang up on you, talk over you, take a tone or yell at you--- all I wanted was to buy a friggin laptop.
I finally get it and now this?!
And even though I went through all that BS, spent HOURS on the phone with them over the course of a month, they end up canceling my order and I had to fight to have them re-enter it with the same specs/price, am out hundreds of dollars because of dropped online classes, they "don't believe in compensation for this matter".

Don't hate India!
Can you describe the chirp? Like a singing bird?
Mine occasionally makes a single quiet 'squee' noise when i first start using it. At least I think it's the laptop that does it! It's not been getting louder or more frequent though. I had thought it was the case, as the machine warms up a bit and expands... -
I have this problem too... it comes and goes.

Has it ever crossed your mind that it could be the fan noise -
i got a chirruping/tweeting noise like a bird or mice - it seemed to come from the left side of the touchpad and I heard it only when it was really quiet in the room. I thought it came on when the battery was low but its made the same noise with the battery full on a couple of occasions. Haven't heard it since.

My old Inspiron 9400 did this... the solution for that laptop was to disable USB Selective Suspend in power settings. This didn't fix my XPS 15, but maybe it'll fix someone else's.

Ya it's definitely a single squeak noise.

oh thank God I'm not the only one. I have this too on the L702x. I called Dell about it as I thought it may be something bad, however I've so far spent the best part of 2 hours on the phone with them troubleshooting.
It sounds a bit like the internet explorer navigation click, is that what you're hearing? I have all Windows sounds muted and even with the soundcard muted, the sound is still there.
It's totally random but I've noticed it can happen a few seconds after the fan kicks in -
fenella: That's where the hard drive is, so it's probably coming from the hard drive as its first spinning up. If it isn't that loud, its harmless.

I think it is the hard driver switching platters. I noticed it too. It's either that or internet explorer. But its most likely the crappy hard drive dell gives us.
