Greetings,
I have installed a fresh Samsung 950 Pro and installed Windows 10 from my personal home edition copy. Windows was installed under the following settings: AHCI, UEFI with Secure Boot ON. Windows installs fine and runs all its updates.
My problem: windows hits me with random BSOD. The errors most commonly associated with them are "critical process died" or "kernal data in page error."
From researching on this thread it looks like I need to update my storage controller driver. Right now in Device Manager my SATA AHCI Controller driver is listed as Microsoft 10.0.14393.953.
To avoid unnecessary trial and error can anyone walk me through this process? What is the best driver to install? Where in windows do I go to install the driver?
Besides updating the controller driver is there anything else I can do to maximize stability?
Thanks for your help!

reboot
grab beer.
(before anyone chips in with samsung driver versions causing various issues I have had no problem with the retail drive and latest driver so I am linking to the latest.m_karlson likes this. -
After installing and rebooting I go into Device Manager and look at the drivers associated with the 950 and the ACHI controller and they are shown as being from Microsoft. Is that correct? Where can I go in Windows to confirm that the driver I just installed is being used? -
It should be under "storage controllers" listed as "Samsung NVMe controller"
the generic driver under "disk drives" doesn't change.m_karlson likes this. -
One other thing: it seems like after installing this new driver my boot time (from pushing the power button to when the log-in screen appears) increased noticeably...it is now taking 32 seconds. From what I have read that seems a bit slow.
Do you know of any way that could be sped up?
THANKS for all your help. -
After my system has posted it takes under 10 seconds to get to the login screen. Post time is nothing to do with the driver and can be a long time.
Do you have fastboot enabled in windows? (power options > choose what the power buttons do) and it should list at the bottom if it is enabled, you will have to press the "change settings that are currently unavailable to be able to change it.
It should take longer to restart than to cold start with fastboot working and longer to shut down as it is caching everything ready.
If the above works ok I would have a look at the event viewer for hints. -
Over the past couple of days I have encountered a new issue that I need some help with. My system will run stable during 1 to 3 hours of use and then seemingly randomly explorer stops responding. The mouse cursor continues to move around on screen, but I can not click on / open / close any applications. ControlAltDelete does nothing. Everything is frozen except the mouse cursor. I wait 10-15 minutes...there is no change and then I am forced to just reboot. When I go into Event Viewer under WindowsLogs > System there are no entries at or around the time the “freeze” starts.
Can anyone give me any tips on how to troubleshoot a problem like this?
Thanks in advance for any input. -
1st post on this page (16) and read the rest of the posts, you will see a member needed to put the SSD driver on to get a stable system, you need to do the same.

1, download DDU (display driver uninstaller)
2, wipe out the intel driver with it
3, install the latest HD630 driver from Dell (they have caught up with the one I am using from Intel so it should now be fine.
4, if it happens again check to make sure window update hasn't gone and installed the driver it thinks is best for you (and probably caused this)
5, if 4 has replaced the driver you will need to use the driver roll back and when asked tell it you rolled back due to stability and it should stop it happening again.
You can also try the latest from Intel if it happens again.
Fingers crossed I got it right this time! -
"Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver_M56HN_WIN_21.20.16.4664_A10.EXE" and "nVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-Quadro-graphic-Driver_K2H3H_WIN_22.21.13.8205_A10.EXE" They both have release dates of July 2017. Do I want to install both of these?
Also, the two graphics adapters Device Manager shows are "HD Graphics 530" and "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M." What does the HD630 in your latest reply refer to?
Thanks -
Ahh I skim through that many posts I missed this is a 9550 thread, so you need to intel HD driver for your HD 630 adapter. I always use the latest nvidia driver from the nvidia website.

GoNz0 Et. Al,
After updating the display driver and storage controller driver things were running stable for about 2 weeks. Then all of a sudden while I was using Windows my Bluetooth mouse stopped responding and all my Bluetooth controls in settings and control panel disappeared.
I then went on the Dell web site and got the following Bluetooth driver and installed it: 9550_Network_Driver_9YMDN_WN32_10.0.0.256_A00.EXE
After installing this driver my Bluetooth functionality returned, but now I am getting random Windows freezes (without BSOD).
Can anyone recommend a more stable Bluetooth driver to install?
Attached image shows all the Bluetooth items in device manager.
I am on a Dell XPS 9550.
Thanks for any help! -
A lot of people buy the intel card as it is a lot more stable than the 1830 card, it is 866 not 1300 speed but the stability is better.

On the KILLER driver support page there are (2) downloads for Windows 10. One is just the driver ("Bluetooth for Killer 1535/1525/1435 - Windows 10") and the other is the control center which includes the driver and some associated software ("Killer Control Center 64-bit"). Just to be clear you are recommending that I don't install just the driver first? Are you saying I should first install the "Control Center" and then uninstall the "Control Center" and then install the standalone driver?
Thanks -
Depends if you have the software suite installed already?
It will only show in the the start menu program list if it is installed. -
A new issue seems to have surfaced that I need some help with: When I leave the computer idle (not in sleep or hibernate mode) for more than what seems to be 40 minutes or so windows freezes. I typically will leave my computer downloading with the display turned off and when I come back and turn the display on nothing responds.
Link below to 3 images of event viewer screens (each from a different occurrence of the freeze). The freeze occurred somewhere within the shown event viewer log. The error events ID's that are common between them are [distributedCOM 10010] [distributedCOM 10016] [Service Control Manager 7023]. These ID's may or may not have anything to do with my freeze...I don't know.
.
Thanks for any help.
