Which version of photoshop will you be using? i dont believe CS3 has any benefits from x64 but CS4 does.

As far as installation try this

Unless you're working with large RAW files, then no, you probably won't see any difference in performance.

Question (may be out of the topic), does CS4 seems kind of sticky when minimizing/maximizing the screen on your M1530? I know mine does. Just wonder why CS3 doesn't behave like that.

If you use CS4, go x64. As CS4 has a x64 program. I've used it and it works better on x64. And if you have 4GB of ram, why not anyways. :p

All 32-Bit Consumer Versions of Windows have a 2GB limit on the maximum amount of memory allocated to a single process (can be increased to 3GB, but has some drawbacks /3GB switch; bcdedit IncreaseUserVA).

At least Photoshop CS2 (and maybe even versions before that) and certainly all Photoshop versions after that could make use of more memory when running on a 64-bit OS:

    "New capabilities with 64-bit processors"
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=320005&sliceId=1

"Allocating memory above 2 GB with 64-bit processors"
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=332271&sliceId=1

However this translates only into a higher PS performance if you really run low on memory in Photoshop, which most likely won't be the case if you just use some red eye reduction for your digital camera pictures. The best way to tell is watch the memory consumption as also described in above links.

Yeah it's certainly 2009 and a 64-Bit OS is great if all your hard- and software is supported. However there's still software only available in 32-Bit OS: Cisco VPN client, many system tools, some drivers.
