Hi guys looking for a little advise from the other xps1530 owners on the site.
Just wondering what sort of temps other people are getting from the cpu & gpu?

I've got a T9500 slighting under clocked running at around 50, approx 60 under load.

8600 gpu is running at around 60, haven't had a chance to put it under stress to see what it goes up to.

May just me being used to seeing low running temps in my desk top. The laptop temps seem high in comparison but for all I know this could be the norm with laptops of this build.

What are you guys getting temp wise?

    Cheers

The CPUs are not overclockable, unless you found a BIOS Hack you want to share with us =D

Generally speaking, under 70c is fine for the laptop, Anything under 85c~90 (getting iffy) is fine for the GPU. HD and other temps shouldnt see over 60c.

Make sure you DONT block the main intake on the back left corner of the laptop (if you're facing the laptop screen)

Hmmm I'm getting these temps according to HWmonitor while playing HL2:

    ACPI: max 80C
    Core#0: max 76C
    Core#1: max 75C
    GPU: max 77C

Are those temps too high ?

    I have the XPS1530 8600GT and T9300 cpu.

I've never seen my CPUs get above 70c before. The GPU temp is definitely in the green zone, but I'd say the CPU temps are getting just a little high.

I noticed that you just posted the peaks. Are they maintaining that temp?

When I just surf my min-max are these:

    ACPI: 47-58C
    CPUS: 45-61C
    GPU: 57-67C
    HDD: 39-40C

I don't know if the CPU temps are maintaining that temp since I can't see the HWmonitor while playing!?

Try using something that will let you see the history of the temps in a line graph, such as I8kgui or Ntune.

I just downloaded I8kgui and the cpu temp seams to be around 70C stable while playing crysis on medium settings. The peak temp was 73C according to I8kgui.

I don't pay much attention to CPU temp since it is always much cooler than GPU, but I usually get around low 60s C when surfing and when I play WoW my max is usually 70C at which point the fans bring it back down to low 60s C

Well Ive undervolted mine and I get:

    ACPI: 52C
    CPUS: 55C
    GPU: 62C
    HDD: 40C

Much Cooler to be honest and even before that I never used to get the temps that you see...

Maybe but I don't want to influence you...

If you can wait for a new M1530 and you get a couple more temps from people and yours seems to be higher then yeah I'd return it... :D

I just got into the whole "Undervolting" thing, so I'm gonna try that first.

Thanks for the input guys. In my 1st note on this thread I mentioned that I had under clocked the cpu, I meant undervolted, just to avoid confusion.
From what I can see of the temps you guys have been posting I think my temps are about average. Oppermann you should run a few checks on your system before kicking off with Dell. When I recently undervolted my cpu I found that up till then it actually had too much power going to it. Guess where I switched from vista to xp, flashed it something went wrong with the power settings. Entire system calmed calmed down when I put the power settings to stock & improved greatly when undervolted.
Don't forget crysis is going to put a big strain on a laptop. I would expect my laptop temps to shoot up when playing that.
Best bet would be to check the volts, undervolt & run a few checks. Just about to go down the arctic silver route myself.
    Thanks again for the help

Well even if I disable the IDA 13x multiplier and undervolt the 12x multiplier to 1,0000v my CPU temps are stable on 70C and max at 73C during stresstest...

Would a reinstall of vista do the trick ? (I guess not)

Btw. HWmonitor seems to show a bit higher temps than RMClock and I8Kfan does, could it be HWmonitor that is not accurate ?

Most likely RMclock, since its not up to date with the Penryn chip revisions. I suggest you use a third cpu monitor like coretemp or speedfan to check for consistency
