Hi, new here, and grateful for any help. I got my XPS1530 a few weeks ago. My problem relates to dual boot, but is not the common one here. I got a blue screen error on a Vista update, and this decided me to set up dual boot with XP Pro.

Successfully installed XP Pro, all drivers found and ok. Thought about using nlite to slipstream sata drivers but decided to take the simpler option of changing the bios to sata/Ide and not using AHCI.

Disk partioned with separate partition for Vista - used Paragon partition manager. I am unable to install Vista from the Dell reinstallation CD. Whether I boot from the cd, or run it in XP, I get a BSOD when it tries to start Vista. I have run it with bios swtiched back to AHCI and flash cache on, and in the sata/ide mode which XP is happy with. I have tried safe mode etc. I have tried disabling any device the vista compatibility tool tells me it is not sure about. Error message is "Stop 0x0000C1F5". There is a Microsoft knowldegebase article on this error code, which refers to a log file that Vista does not remove after a failed install, and a hotfix (but its an msu file and you need Vista to install it...). Not sure if this is the cause of my problem - hard to see how as I have formatted the partition several times (both with Paragon and with Windows XP). I can install XP on that partition, and dual boot with 2 XP's. I have also successfully set up Vista/Xp dual boot on a Dell hybrid in a similar way, without trouble. Now totally stuck - all advice welcome!

    Thanks!

Thank you. It is a good guide, but unfortunately I get a blue screen error on the point where it says "It’s all pretty seamless though, and you shouldn’t encounter any technical problems".

I followed this guide, with the difference that i created the partition for Vista with a partition management programme first, rather than use unallocated space.
