So my computer (XPS 1530) is just downloading some misc stuff, and it lets out a BEEP...obviously from the system board (the system speakers were muted at the time). Any idea what this could be? It was plugged in, so not a low battery thing and nothing seems wrong. I am wondering if its trying to tell me something. Comments please. Thanks.

I heard a loud beep too... i cant remember what I was doing... I think the machine was on idle while i was doing HW... It did not seem that it came from the speakers... Sounded like it came form somewhere else...
Anyone else experience this or know what it might be?

A computer system speaker is different from a software controlled volume setting. I wonder if it was going into sleep or hibernation. Sometimes downloading something won't de-activate the sleep/hibernate feature.

My new M1530 emits some random beeps. It has happened about 3 times in the past 2-3 weeks. I don't recall it being very loud, and I don't recall if it was one beep or a couple of short beeps.

It appears to be related to the hard drive, as the hard drive started making some regular "churning" noise at the same time.

Would love to know what this is all about.

Yes my computer does this as well - I did try disabling the beep device in device manager, this worked for me in Vista x86 but doesnt appear to be available in Vist x64.....

Not sure why it wants to beep, seems pretty bad as a system board beep is normally some kind of warning - not sure just disabling it is that wise anyway.

I got one while running the GIMP, and one when I raised my lid, but no negative side-effects so far, so...

    :p

Usually a beep means that something is trying to get your attention or a warning such as it just hibernated or out of hibernation. A loud long beep is another story which I don't have an answer to.

it happened to me while i was lifting the m1530 from the desk, still on with the screen closed ( set to do nothing when doing so) and i heard a quick beep from the hard drive, my first guess would be the motion sensor, or freefall sensor...

it doesnt make sense though, the other people stated the beeping noise when their computer was not moving i.e. doing hw or playing games.
