i want to transfer my mini DVD to my laptop and burn it to my DVD.

Unfortunately my XPS1530 can't detect my Sony Handycam using firewire to firewire.

anybody knows how to configure XPS1530-firewire connection?

I have to admit I've not really had much Firewire experience, being a mainly USB user, but does your camera have any drivers on the net?

sometimes the firewire gets flaky (mine does).... remove the wire and push it in again (hard)

If the device needs specific drivers to appear on Windows then Nero may not detect it. I would try adding drivers too if available.

(Remember, that IF, as I am not familiar with your camera :))

    I got Sony DCR-PC115.

i thought almost of the device today is plug & play. My XPS never give me any pop up or any kind of reminder that the device is trying to attach to it or installing device.

That's why I said 'if', as I am not sure. However if I was in your situaton I'd google for drivers to sratch that on the list and move to the next item in the list while problem solving.
