    Hi,

I am upgrading my primary HHD to SSD and would like to know If there are any issues doing a fresh Install with my supplied DVD from dell, the xps15z came with another drivers disk for the drivers.

It is possible to also copy the recovery partition (20 gig) to the ssd or can I leave this on the current internal 500gig HHD and boot from USB (will put the old drive in a usb caddy) in an emergency.

    I have just ordered a crutial M4 256gig SSD

    Thanks in advance

    Andrew

You can use the Dell OEM Windows disc, sure thing. That's what a lot of us here have done with various XPS's and SSDs. You are better doing a clean install anyway.

I never tried to save a recovery partition before. All it does is return the system to factory default, and if you have the Windows disc anyway, I don't see a point in returning to the crapware-infested stage!

You can boot from a USB drive yes. Can also boot from CD/DVD.

You can create the recovery media first on the mechanical drive and then use them on the SSD. TBH Dell's don't have that much bloatware on them, you can just uninstall the stuff you don't want if you don't feel comfortable doing a clean OS install.
