    Nice find.
I agree with most of the bullet points, but then again I am biased.
    Good job

"Generally we can say: If you want to call a 3D capable entertainment platform your own, you could take a liking to the XPS 17. We would advise everyone else to sooner take a smaller member of the XPS family. The XPS 15 is cooler, lighter and stronger in battery life." :D

I would add this to that :
If you want a desktop replacement ( i.e. battery , weight , not relevant ) , and you don't want games or 3D ( shouldn't be any overheating ? ) , and you want a good quality 17" 1080 screen for 1080p movies , and a relatively powerful system , then this should be good .

XPS 17 Laptop - Feel the Thrill with 3D Laptop Screen | Dell

of the 4 configurations, the first 2 are non-3D. The last 2 are 3D.
The 1st 2 only offer 900p as as standard..unless you go and upgrade.

Can someone confirm with me the non-3D option ..even if upgrade to 1080p (meaning resolution of 1920x1080) will it be designated as a matte screen(AG-antiglare) vs the 3D enabled gloss screen?

I buy this notebook for larger screen size ; not for gaming or movies.
So 3D will not have Optimus but non-3D has Optimus ?

Yup, the 3D version does not have optimus but in turn it has 4RAM slots on the other have the non 3D version has optimus but only 2RAM slots. You can have the full hd panel on a non 3D version matte *and i think theres a glossy version also*. The availability of the matte full hd screen is dependant on your home country (go to dells website and find out if you have it in your country -- atm australia has it there is a chance that its available in the USA ud better call customer support to find out).

It is a shame as the MSI GX780 have Optimus and the GT555M gpu installed and you have the opportunity to install 16GB of memory.
