Just wondering, but what are you guys getting on 3d mark with your XPS 17s? I think I have seen some people post some scores, I just dont remember what they were or where.
I'm just curious to know what you guys are getting and what I should be expecting!

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
You mean 3dmark06? I think the higher I've seen on a gt555m was like 7500.
A real test would be using vantage as 06 is extremely CPU dependent therefore the final score can be applied only between same machines.
If you want to compare between other laptops then take only the gpu score. -
Well I just scored a 7100 on 3dmark06 on my 3 year old Gateway FX. I'm just trying to get an idea of what I can expect as far as gaming performance goes?
-
Hurray! I will get mine l702x this day later and I will post some scores.
-
-
No problem, sir. I hope this laptop will suit my needs.
-
Couple of benchys I did last night for info, completely Dell build stock system. With 1080p screen.
3d Mark 06: 11096
3d mark 11: P1337
I'll do a vantage run tonight! -
Have to clarify one thing. Which setting (resolution, AA, and so on..) should I use in 3D Mark to get a 'correct' score comparatively to other scores people posting? Or should I leave the default ones and just click on 'Run 3D Mark' ?

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Check out these screenies! Didn't want to post em all here too. Some I ran on a replacement they sent me. Obviously faulty in some way. No discrete GPU can I find.

Performing in gaming is my only concern. If my computer can run my games, it can do everything else I need it to. -
run on stock dell build, 2630qm and 3gb non-3d GT 555m,8GB RAM -
-
I just run the 3DMark and got 5342 Marks
I have no idea if this is good or bad for L702x 8Gb 550M
ANDREW -
I'll say this. I have nearly the same system you ordered Chase. Yes, it isn't as good as my desktop, but it has some serious power nonetheless. I can play all my games maxed out or darn near it (aside from 16X AA maybe, 4x is usually fine). TF2, L4D2, SC2, Far Cry 2, etc. Not the most demanding games maybe, but they run flawlessly at 1080p.
What games are you looking to run?
I know you are comparing to an 8800. I never used those cards, my friend has SLI'd 8700s in his m1730 (yea that system, his has issues too, lol) and the 555m beats the snot out of it. I had a 9800GT 1GB in my desktop before an upgrade, and it performed similarly to this 555m. Only it ran a lot hotter despite bigger HS+FanThe desktop version of the 9800 was a bit stronger than the mobile one, which was a bit stronger than the mobile 8800 as I understand it. It will be stronger than a single 8800GTS, though not massively would be my guess. Maybe 10-20%? Draws less power though.
I was looking for a laptop that could reasonably supplement my desktop when I was traveling (my old laptop was an Inspiron 1150...). If I wanted a dedicated gaming laptop I would have gone Sager (or AW, but their laptops are overpriced and are ugly imo). But I wanted reasonable battery life, this got me it, I have no complaints aside from the Dell run-around regarding RAM slots. -
My biggest concern is Microsoft Flight Sim X... That piece of software has been out since 2007 and we are just now finding computers that can run it with a lot of details and hang in the higher 20s to 30s as far as frames go.
I know all about FS. Back in 2003, I spent a pretty penny and custom built a Desktop that would run FS2004.
Basically, I want to run FSX for the first time since it came out and "enjoy" it. I may end up stuck back on FS9 AGAIN, but thats fine because I have about 1500 bucks in aftermarket software for FS9 that I've acquired.
Other than FSX, I have BFBC2 that is being shipped to me from Newegg, along with numerous other goodies that are in my sig. CounterStrike Source, Call of Duty MW1, 2, Black Ops will be ran and I know that they will since they are all based on an older code.
BFBC3 and MW3 will be "attempted" when released in a few months also. -
I don't have FSX so I cannot help you out there. But if you can run it now on the 8800 you will be fine. BF2 should run, just not at max settings maybe the res will have to be turned down, but you should be fine. CSS will run full out no problems, it's way less demanding than even TF2 (what with all the random crap added to the game lately, it's insanely bloated) which runs at FHD at well over 60fps (I don't see it dip below 60 much at all). COD should be fine too.
FS9 of course will run (that is the century of flight one right?). I have it, and while I have not run it on here, I could run it fine on my old Inspiron 1150 that had integrated graphics...heck it ran on an old Dell desktop from 1999.
Hey, worst case you have a week or two to return for refund if it can't do what you want. I say a week or so since the 21 day window starts when they invoice you, which was over a week before mine shipped....somehow that has to be illegal. But I think you will be OK. -
I saw a video last night of a M14x running BFBC2 at 1080 (46" Bravia if I remember right) getting around 70FPS with all settings maxed except for the shadow detail.
So I am being hopeful, but when I get it on Saturday, I'll set it up and start testing different software titles to make sure I'm going to be happy. If I decide against it, the MSI GT683R will be on my desk next week. -
So, this is what I got in:
3DMark Vantage
3DMark06
soon... -
Great! How are you liking it so far? Mine should be here within 48 hours! It shipped today!

I bought thermal paste too ( OCZ Freeze Extreme), just in case if I will have high temps, but NO WAY! Temperatures seems to be absolutely great. GPU hardly reaches 65 °C under load (Crysis, Metro 2033..), and its around 40-50 °C when just internet surfing and doing some other 'easy' stuff. CPU is at 50 °C while not playing games. Will check it under load as well, but later.
So what do you think about these temps? No need to repaste, or? -

-
I ran some stress tests last night to see how my xps was with temps. Ran Prime 95 and furmark to really heat things up for an hour. Cpu topped out at 90c, and GPU at 80c.
I ripped everything apart after and repasted with Arctic MX-4. Ran the same tests again and time lenth (still needs a little curing time), and I've shaved nearly 10c of the temps ! CPU topped out at about 80c and the GPU 71c - the casing / palm rest also felt a little cooler. Worthwhile exercise for me, even tho the stock dell paste job looked ok....! -
I'm about to download 3DMark 06 and Vantage to see how I do! -
Vantage will be around 5k GPU, 19K CPU, 6K overall, or at least it should be.
One of these days I'm going to run 3DMark11 to see how this CPU compares to my old C2Q in my desktop. It should be similar despite the lower clock (turbo gets it close though). -
11320 for me on 06 complete stock with no oc.
-
Alright, Overclocked to 770MHz and I scored a respectable 13726 on 3Dmark06. This thing overclocks like a champ.
I'm starting to think the clocks were set low to what they are because this card is so capable for what it is. I wonder how close this gets to a GTX460/560M -
Did a little OC'ing yest on the 555m - I'd like to push it a little futher than 770 core, any ideas how or is that a hard limit set ? (max that MSI AB goes)
my temps are really good, 57c max running 3d mark 06 + 11 !
these results with 770 core + 990 mem
3d mark 06 = 13729
3d mark 11 = P1646 -
My score was at the stock 900MHz. I've been told that overclocking your memory really has no benefit. I dont know personally, I'm just passing on what I have heard. -
-
Impressive scaling, and in line with what I have heard. I might do the same after I do a good repaste with AS 5. Was there a change in GPU temps with the OC?
And apparently 13k is more than a stock 460m gets, according to other posts around this forum. Very impressive then since you get Optimus with the 555m. -
There has to be a way to push the clocks farther though. This thing is running as cool as can be at 770. Something tells me that the way this thing stays cool, we could close the gap on the GTX 560 if we could push the clocks far enough. -
Great results guys! Have you checked how many extra fps you getting with oc'ed gpu in any game?
Chase.Barnett, so how do you like your new '555m' comparing to old '8800M GTS'? -
I ran Crysis earlier. I was impressed to say the least. Ran everything on High @ 900 and it seemed pretty smooth. I downloaded fraps but couldnt get the FPS to pop up in the corner, so I honestly have no clue what I was getting.
I wish I could find something to download where it would record my frames and give me my highest, lowest and average frames per second.
But so far so good! This thing is my baby! I have Bad Company 2 in the mail now. Should have it Monday or Tuesday. -
Well you can run a few Source Engine games and run "net_graph 1" in console (or 2 or 3, but those are more in the way) and watch what you get. But Source Engine really isn't a challenge for this laptop as you know. BFBC2 should give you a good feel though.
Isn't there a benchmarking thing for Crysis? -
