    Hello all,

My M1530 battery was doing fine and then I formatted my computer. During the format I also upgraded my BIOS from A09 to A12. Finally got my computer configured the way I like it and then I notice my battery is stuck at 37% getting the infamous "Plugged in, not charging" message.

Browsing the forums, it seems like going down to A09 helped a lot of people so I downgraded to A09 and no luck. The other popular solution seems to be replacement motherboard to get it charging again. However, my battery DOES still charge, it just stops at 21% now. If I unplug, the battery starts to drain like normal and then when I plug it in, it starts charging. For some reason though when it hits 21% it just stops.

I've tried fully depleting my battery until the laptop shut itself off and then plugging it back in both with the computer on and the computer off. Both times it stopped charging itself at the 21% level again. Any ideas? (BTW I am out of warranty by 30 days or so unfortunately)

    Download Batterybar:

Its free and it will tell you how worn your battery is. Great little app.
Let us know what it says about your battery.

It says battery wear is at 6.4%. It is a 9-cell but using the button on the battery, it says full health. The 9 cell is only a year old and I doubt it somehow got worn out during the time I just formatted my computer since it was working fine one day and bad the next.

Hate to bump but has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did they manage to fix it?

Oish.. :( I had a similar problem, my 9 cell wouldn't hold a charge..but my Motherboard was replaced and so was my AC/Brick.

Tomorrow..just try contacting XPS Tech Support tell them your battery won't hold a charge. Tell them you have tried everything to see what the problem is, yet it won't work itself out. Tell them you are a loyal Dell Customer, how much you like you 1530, and ask if they can send you a replacement battery/AC Adapter.

I think if you get a good Rep on the phone, they may be willing to do this for you. Even if you are just a bit outside of the one year warranty. ;)

Update for those of you who may have similar problems, I would just let it charge to whatever level it hit, unplug it and let it run on battery for 5 min and replug it back in. Slowly over the last week my battery has built itself back up to charging. Who knows...
