i brought the xps(3612qm, 8gb,gt640m,750gb 7200rpm+32gb msata) a week back started having problem with the video playback , video freezes or jerks for 1 or two seconds and the sound jerks too, this happen occasionally. i use kmplayer ,k lite codecs and windows media player. videos are stored in the system harddrive .

same problem exist with the flash player

so i installed all the updates, restore system twice and finally i did a Pc restore nothing seem to work

contacted dell and explained the problem they suggested to change the motherboard and they send a technician with a refurbished one .

i was not happy to hav a refurbished board on a brand new system.

they will do a refund but not a replacement and the refund take another month and the cost of the same system gone up

    what will i do?

try selectively disabling other software that is running in the background to ensure that no other process is causing an issue (such as anti-virus)?

FWIW (not much) I have nil problems playing such things as HD video files, downloaded flash, whatever. I removed the Mcaffee entirely and replaced it with Avast early on, and I tend to NOT have ANYTHING running that I don't really need. I should not have to be so restrictive on the machine, it's just habit from my previous core-2 machine.

You could also try booting from an Ubuntu live-cd (or live-usb) and see if you can play back the content under that OS (it can read them from the Windows HDD). This should eliminate hardware as an issue, if you ask me.

I'd almost bet the hardware is fine, getting a test done using Ubuntu (or any other live-boot Linux) may be good (assuming it has the video codec required of course).

If you have that video file somewhere on-line, I'd be happy to d/l and try it on my xps tonight when I get home, but it'll be late (after 10pm east-coast US time).
