I am getting replacement for my dicontinued xps 14 Dell is sending me an xps 15x2 specd out like my 14 core i7 2720 8 gb ram 540 2gb etc,but they didnt give me the 1080p screen,I called to upgrade and since its in prodution stage I may have to have a tech swap out new screen its dells mistake so its a free upgrade.Does anyone know how the techs are at this type of service I know theres lots of plastic clips and things that can break,Ive had so many problems with dells support I dont want to have to get another replacement unit. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Replacing the LCD is by no means the hardest component to replace. I did this myself on an L501x
For full information and instructions take a look at Dell service manual for the task.

Although if the Dell tech is doing it you won't have anything to worry about at all. While you're correct alot of it is plastic it is also very durable and the plastic parts are designed to "snap" into place.
The other parts are screws and you can't go too wrong there ;)
At this stage it would be no different than if they were building it from scratch so don't fret. You'll have that gorgeous screen in no time!

Thanks Stone but I called to confirm since my order shows a memory mistake and the lower res screen and 2 hours on the phone and now they say they have no record of my upgrade request!Dell has gotten horrible over the years if you have no issues they make great pcs for the $ but if you have to deal with them WOW.

You should see my rant/s in
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/572916-free-xps-15-replacement-2.html

Haven't you got a record yourself anywhere? An invoice, even proof of a payment made to them at the time.

I've just ditched Dell completely now and building myself a beast of desktop.
When my XPS was working I heavily recommended it to friends.... I feel embarrassed now
