Replacing the LCD is by no means the hardest component to replace. I did this myself on an L501x
For full information and instructions take a look at Dell service manual for the task.http://support.ap.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsL502X/en/sm/display.htm#wp1183873
Although if the Dell tech is doing it you won't have anything to worry about at all. While you're correct alot of it is plastic it is also very durable and the plastic parts are designed to "snap" into place.
The other parts are screws and you can't go too wrong there
At this stage it would be no different than if they were building it from scratch so don't fret. You'll have that gorgeous screen in no time! -

Haven't you got a record yourself anywhere? An invoice, even proof of a payment made to them at the time.
I've just ditched Dell completely now and building myself a beast of desktop.
When my XPS was working I heavily recommended it to friends.... I feel embarrassed now -
