I am looking to buy one of these devices next week as I will be travelling to the US. There are a lot of nice deals on ebay at around $1100. However I am also seeing a large percentage of refurbished machines have issues with WIFI and/or touchscreen not working. Is this a known flaw? Does it affect only one of these models? What about the XPS13?

I really like the these offerings from Dell but i don't want to get myself a lemon.

Unfortunately, there isn't a guarantee of anything. Even if you buy a new laptop (from any vendor), you have a chance of getting a defective lemon.

The most important thing is to buy from a place that has a generous warranty and/or return policy. That way, if you are unlucky enough to get a defective unit, you have some way of handling the situation.

Overall, I'd say that the best place to buy a refurbished Dell unit is from the Dell Outlet. If you're only going to be in the US for a short period of time, and want the highest probability of getting a known-working unit, then I'd recommend you buy through the Dell Outlet. You don't have any better chance of getting a non-defective laptop, but you DO avoid any potential scam or misrepresentation of sale from buying off of an eBay listing.
