I find that kind of hard to believe. Some of the Inspirons have been updated; why would Dell leave their flagship product lagging behind their cheap stuff by such a long period of time? Also, the current XPS machines launched a full year ago. Why would it take Dell so much longer to update their silicon this time, when they're probably not even redesigning the hardware (with the hopeful exception of minor updates to fix the wifi)?

I did send Dell an email asking for a release date and they declined to tell me anything at all. I'd be more likely to wait for their hardware if I knew how long it was going to be.

Whenever it does come out, I'd say an Nvidia 700 series GPU is a safe bet, unless they do a complete chassis redesign to go even thinner and ditch the dedicated GPU entirely, which I think is unlikely.

Who knows mate, your guess is as good as mine, what do we have now, Haswell in the Inspiron 15, XPS12, one Latitude and Alienwares, and every single other machine (XPS13/14/15, all the other latitudes, precisions and Inspirons).... so yea.

It's the same for pretty much every other major manufacturer though, they've only done sporadic updates of their product lines. Lenovo, Asus, Samsung, Acer, Apple, Sony, all having only updated a handful of models, and still continuing to sell flagship models with 3rd gen processors.

There obviously hasn't been enough time in the development cycle or there are supplier shortages or something, because it's been a fairly underwhelming launch to Haswell so far :\

Many laptop makers are probably waiting for Intel to release the full line of Haswell chips and maybe Windows 8.1 which has better support of higher res screens. I would rather have Dell release the XPS 15 later if they could make a few improvements other than just sticking Haswell and a Geforce 700 in the laptop and calling it a day. Of course we might have to wait for a redesign for the major upgrades.

Have a >1080p screen. It's the premium laptop. If Dell is going the >1080p route like other laptop makers, this is the one that will do it. While they're at it, bring back a 97% color gamut screen.
Get a better Wifi. Make sure it's totally working. Don't release a L522X until it's ready and tested.
    Improve the touchpad.
Make it lighter. The Macbook pro 15 is more than a pound lighter (4.46 lbs vs 5.79 lbs). Sure, the MBP doesn't have an optical drive but the DVD drive isn't a pound.

Dvd drives are roughly 5-6 ounces... So that's actually a chunk of the weight right there. Plus the real hard drive can't help.

It's better that they take some time and actually test this one. Maybe they won't have all the problems they did with the last model.

The next XPS 15 could be great if they just made a few tweaks. Firstly, ditch the optical drive, they're outdated, and it'd make room for a bigger battery. There's no secret to Apple's long battery life.

Secondly, upgrade to the Samsung 840 Pro SSD as it's the fastest on the market. But I don't want to pay Dell's extortionate upgrade fees, I want it as standard.

Thirdly, give us an option for high res screens, people seem to want this. Personally I think it's a waste of time, as a 1080p movie will look better on a 1080p screen at native resolution. There's no point in having a super high res and scaling everything back down. And more pixels means more power consumption and less brightness, I'd like to use my laptop outdoors.

Fourthly, where the hell is the backlit keyboard?? They ditched it, which was stupid imo. A backlit keyboard comes in handy when typing at night!

Lastly, as others have said, fix the wifi!
