This has been answered so many times in these forums.

    Cooling pad
    Change thermal paste
    Remove dust filters
    etc etc.

    Try using the search tool!

He is playing on low, settings it seems unbelievable that the response is to start opening up a laptop...I thought the newer adapters fixed the issue.

Its not like he's bumping everything to max and its not running.

What temperatures are you actually getting? You can use Hardware Monitor to determine your CPU and GPU temperatures.

What surface is the laptop on when you're gaming?

The 130 watt adapter does not cure the throttling problem for everyone. Run ThrottleStop with the Log File option checked, minimize it to your system tray and then go do some gaming. It will keep track of what is causing the throttling. The most recent bios will throttle when the GPU gets up to about 80C to 85C. You might need to upgrade to an older bios.

Dell originally designed the XPS 1645 with a 90 watt adapter. The poor cooling solution was marginal then. Using a higher rated power adapter only makes the cooling problems worse. You shouldn't have to re-engineer a laptop for better cooling but with this one, it's a good idea if you do.

It would really help if you explained your situation a little more.

Also, on a side note, being on low or high settings doesn't make a big difference for how much the card will heat up; the card is going to work as hard as it can to give you the maximum number of frames per second as it can.

You say unplayable, what do you mean? Is laptop too hot beneath your hands? Does the framerate drop? Does the game crash?

What are the physical conditions around your laptop? Is it on a flat surface (desk) with nothing beside or behind it?

What are your Windows power settings and the PowerPlay setting in the Catalyst Control Center? Is there anything running in the background?

What video drivers are you using? What version of the BIOS are you running?

Personally, my laptop has never had problems with throttling in games (and I play for hours and hours), but I know the problem exists.

What i can see i have all settings like powerplay etc on Max settings.
Use all the newest drivers , and have Bios A09.
    nothing running in the back.

Its just like im playing like 20 minutes , after that the laptop gets really hot and it ends with that the game is like seeing a movie on reject.
    ...... Sorry for my English....

Open up hardware monitor after 30 minutes of gameplay and tell us what temps you see...what you can "feel" is the assembly temp which when idle is around 38 C.

You may try upgrading to new bios A11. That's all I can think for now.

And install an air conditioner right near when you have your laptop ;) Or maybe sit it inside your fridge ...

Sorry ... I was kidding ... was just having a small chuckle to myself after reading kezuk12's advice. Thought I would have a crack at being funny myself.

But on a side, I am not sure upgrading BIOS to A11 will help. A09 is the choice of many in relation to throttling. The best option is to cool it down and ensure the fans have adequate ventilation; perhaps even a phone call to Dell Support if still under warranty wont go astray.

Yeah, just only remove the dust filter that covers the fan intake, leave the others in place. All you'll have to do is use canned air to blow the dust out of your heatsink/fan every once in a while, which is something you should be doing anyway, with or without a dust filter and/or clean house, lol.

What are your gpu temps like? as those CPU temps are within intel specs. Download GPU-z and post a screenshot using imageshack.us also any kind of physical mods are usually result in a lost warranty. It has been a while since I have had my SXPS 16, so I am not sure how damaging that warranty is, but I recommend the other fixes as they helped tons on my SXPS 16.(cooler,changing TIM)

Um... no. The dust filter accumulates dust over time. There is no way to clean it but to remove it, and because it's simply glued on, it likely won't adhere again once it's on.

DELL cannot expect you to care for its product without removing the dust cover. It's going to have to happen eventually, you're just doing it now rather than later.

It'd probably come off if you washed it. It's barely glued on at all.

Umm could anyone give a step by step process of how to take off the dust filter. I've changed my thermal paste so I know what it looks like inside, im just not sure which part it is.
