So, I have never used chiclet keyboards, and have the dilemma of getting one or not.

I like the idea of it looking better and being easier to clean.

What I don't like is the thought of it being worse for actually typing. If this is the case usability/ergonomics comes first.

Does Dell produce good chiclet keyboards?

Supposedly better spacing is good for reducing typos. Surely good for my dad using two fingers or the average Mac user not knowing better or giving a sh*t. But for the programmer, writer and touch typist also? How about the key travel distance, tactile feedback etc.?

Hope these keyboards aren't just inferior ones being popular due to Apple and consumers not knowing any better. Or maybe this is just very subjective and have little to do with typing speed or ergonomics?

If it's anything like the keyboard on the Studio XPS 13/16 there really isn't a huge difference. That keyboard is kind of in between the Macbook and a regular laptop keyboard.

msl88, what do you mean ? The L502 isn't even out yet. The current keyboard on the XPS 15/17 is not chiclet, it's in a class of its own and it's excellent imo, it looks good and feels crisp, not spongy like many chiclet keyboards.

Supposedly the L702 should get a chiclet keyboard so probably the L502 will too, why the change I have no freaking idea. I guess it's Dell trying to catch up with the trend, a bad bet I think. Chiclet keyboards are waaay overrated.

Botsu: I've read that it comes with a chiclet keyboard.

All this different opinions kills me.

Try a chiclet keyboard and see for yourself if you like it or not. Personally I don't. Apparently you'll get the option between chiclet or standard XPS / Dell keyboard.

I'll be taking up the first one that comes backlit to the UK. I'm not a huuuuuuge fan of chicklet but I did use one for quite a while... get used to it just like anything else.

chiclet = sexy looking, no crap getting stuck under the keys
standard = comfortable, most accurate to type on look looks like old tech...

Standard XPS Keyboard however doesn't make it look like a 2005 notebook I think, it's a nice design between chiclet and standard keyboard. And I think you get crap under the keys on a chiclet keyboard too, you just don't notice it. :D
