Intel finds Sandy Bridge chipset design flaw, shipments stopped and recalls beginning -- Engadget I am guessing that this will cause even further delays.

definitely, Suddenly intel stock went down -(( I guess its the time to buy L501x with i740QM, Sandy bridge is going to take long time

I have the Dell Studio XPS 1645 w/5730 right now and I was offered a replacement system from Dell which was the XPS 15. Should I just go ahead and get the replacement or should I wait for the L502x? More than the processor I was hoping the graphic card would get an upgrade. Also my current system has a BD RE which is not offered on the XPS 15.
-
when you go for Dell xps 15 , just upgraded it to 1080p much , much better i would say
ya graphics card they only offering GT 435 which is not as good as compare to others out there , but it can handle all current games , like left for dead 2. need for speed . & so on you can check it on a Youtube =)) -
Intel's announced problem with Series 6 Chipsets will likely delay any Sandy Bridge Mobile devices until late March or April it looks like.
-
Looks like my trusty 1520 has to march on for a couple of month more...and the L502 will be definitely much much cheaper when it is released. They will have to lower the prices to sell these notebooks even when they are fixed.
-
So the bug with 'cougar point' (chipset for Sandy Bridge) is a faulty transistor for affecting ONLY 3Gbps SATA ports, NOT 6Gbps ports. So as long as a manufacturer doesn't use any 3Gbps SATA ports then this will not affect the hardware at all.
From Anandtech:
"If a notebook design only uses ports 0 & 1 off the chipset (the unaffected ports), then the end user would never encounter an issue and the notebook may not even be recalled. In fact, if there are notebook designs currently in the pipeline that only use ports 0 & 1 they may not be delayed by todays announcement. This is the only source of hope if youre looking for an unaffected release schedule for your dual-core SNB notebook."
Hopefully no delay on the L502x. -

Hold on. From the Engadget post that I read, it states that "this recall only affects some desktop boards based on the Intel P67 chipset." So how would this impact the notebooks such as the upcoming Dell XPS L502X?
-
If one is planning to get a core i5 based Dell XPS 15 , does it matter to wait till the Sandy bridge comes out in March/April ??
-
The new i5 will be more efficient and have some nice features, but the real deal is the GPU...the integrated is much better than the current one...so you will need the Nvidia GPU a lot less, which means a lot more battery life. -
My Inspiron E 1505 (almost 4 yrs old) is now having serious heating issues and crashes with some continuous hours of browsing or even playing angry birds for PC.. i observed this in both xp and ubuntu alike.
also last 2 days the hinge has gave way big time and now if i close the lid the screen/plastic layer on top the screen starts splitting apart. So i need to keep the lid open all the time.
I was getting ready for Sandy bridge which were supposed to be out this week and now with this delay i started thinkin of getting the current i5 .
i should be able to manage till april i guess provided there is no further delay.. -
Hi,
i just talked to a support employee. He told me, that the GT420M of the l501x would be no longer available. They'll send me a new offer with the new graphics card, so i can decide if i take this configuration. Sounds interesting. I'm pretty excited, what new card it will be.
€dit: just talked again with employee, after all GT420M is available any longer. Was just a mistake.
