My Laptop doesn't seem to go to sleep when I'm in the 'High Performance' power setting. What happens is that the screen turns off, but the computer keeps running and when I open the laptop it goes to the user login screen.
This problem only seems to be an issue when it's in the 'High Performance' state. I've checked to see if the advanced settings says 'sleep' and it does. I've also just updated the Bios to version 9.
I've spoken to support and they don't seem to be that helpful and just wondered whether any of you know how to solve this problem.

I don't know dude. But I am curious to see what they answer to your question is.
Somone will resolve the problem. This place is better than dell for troubleshooting, but they won't send out hardware. LOL -
doesnt go to sleep when? when u close the lid? or when u press some buttons? Have you checked everything in the advanced power settings? and in which part do u see 'sleep' in advanced settings?

I have a similar problem and I have had it since day one. When I try to either put it to sleep or hibernate it occasionally (every third time or so) just simply does not go. My screen goes dark, but the power indicator on the front does not go out (not the AC power indicator the one in which the computer shows on). When it goes to sleep successfully this indicator will flash occasionally.
Then after all of this I cannot bring the screen back on. I can hear beeps from the computer which tells me it is still on but the screen will not come back. I have to end up hard powering it off. Because of this I have had to already reload it to factory image due to corruption of the OS.
I have all of the updated Dell drivers with the exception of the new Bios release. I have Nvidia 8600 card and I am starting to think it is those drivers. I am considering upgrading off of the Laptopvideotogo site. I have looked all over the internet and called Dell and no one has a clue. Any ideas?
One final thing. It happens regardless of power settings. I switched to using the low power one and it did it last night. It also happens whether I select sleep or hibernate via the start menu or by closing lid/hitting button. -
Only way I have gotten mine to sleep was to turn the wireless off by using the switch on the side, then closing the lid or letting the notebook go to sleep.

well if your getting login screen when you open you are in sleep mode if not you whould have same screen as when you closed.

I posted awhile ago about this problem. I think I've finally come upon the definitive solution. (Not thought out by me.) I just tried it a couple of times and it works. Hope you guys who are having sleep issues can let me know if it works for you too.
This is from the c-net forums. At this point Dell is sending me a new motherboard and new memory to solve the problem. So I want to see if it's as simple for everyone as it seems to be.

In reply to: Inspiron 1525 Vista Restarts when I choose Hibernate/Sleep by aezada
Many woefull Inspiron 1525 owners are registering our frustration with this reboot issue at the Dell
Community Forums. For many of us, the reboot issue only appeared after we installed Vista SP1. For
some of us Windows Update installed SP1 automatically. The best workaround so far is to change some
settings for the wireless network adapter:

Open Device Manager (type Device Manager into the start search box) and modify the properties for the
"Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card".
Leave the device enabled, but open its properties, go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck the
"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox. The reboot problem should
disappear. You won't need to roll bad Vista SP1, nor will you need to disable Hibernate. Some users
have noticed that with this option unchecked, the battery tends to drain more overnight than when they
had the option enabled.

Anyone got a clue on how to fix this yet? The solution above doesn't seem to work. This happened after I did a clean install of vista. When it was still 'from-the-factory' state, everything was fine.

im using windows vista ultimate x64 and unsure if i have sleep problem
i have turned off the wireless "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox. and everything seems to work like how sleep suppose to in XP however im uncertain if vista really does what my xp does , it sounds like some stuff are still on... i will double check when i shove it in a non vent-able(which is my bookbag..) area =P cause fan arent suppose to activate in sleep mode is it? -
For me, when I put it to any other setting, it goes to sleep (no sound, like the laptop was shut down).
However, in High Performance, the laptop is still on, you can still hear it going. But when I open the lid it goes to the login screen.
