Hi all
This is not available via Dell's site yet, but I have a copy of the A07 BIOS for the M1730. Unfortunately I don't have a changelog, but I've been running it on my system for a few weeks and have had no problems at all. Apparenly it adds support for up to 8Gb of ram in 2x4Gb configuration amongst other stuff...
Download here: M1730 A07

8GB of RAM Only for 64-bit. Not your standard 32-bit. Could it be for... "The Nvidia Issue"? It probably is.
-
How are the 8GB supposed to work out?
The PM965 chipset used in M1730 has
"Maximum Memory Support: 4GB"
page 12:
http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/316273.pdf
. Which modules did you use (vendor, banks, ranks, ...)?
. Why is the filename for your BIOS file (M1730A07.EXE) different than the naming scheme they used before (MXG71A06.EXE)?
. Do you have a reliable source?
. Could this file be in fact a VIRUS or TROJAN HORSE?
EDIT: The file posted here is identical to a BIOS update found on a shipped Dell BIOS upgrade CD. -
Don't download it. After performing a trace on the IP of that link ( http://193.33.186.20/M1730A07.EXE), its from the United Kingdom and is a server to some UK Gaming Clan for Counterstrike Source.

Maybe its an attempt to have at your password for your CS: Source account if you have one, or have some clan spam show up randomly.
If you still want to download go ahead, but you have been warned. Who knows, it might be fine. -

Scratch the "Who knows, it might be fine" part, but yeah. Suspicious nonetheless. I know fonduekid's contacts at Direct2Dell might be slow sometimes... but... not that slow. XD

I've heard of paranoid, this puts a whole new spin on the perspective.
 -
But seriously though, as much as everyone with this wonderful machine, I really wish Dell / nV do come up with something to fix this..I really love my laptop now and I would do whatever it takes to keep it with me, running fine... and this includes doing all the updates and stuff
and I would really hate everything around me if at all I would have to send it back or stuff like that..
Anyways, hoping for the best!!

Interesting...
My M1730 came with A09. -
If you think its a virus, don't download it - I was just posting it for those that may want it.
I got it when a Dell technician came to replace a motherboard on a Dell latitude laptop, he left a Dell BIOS cd which when I had a look through it contains a bootable image and bioses for hundreds of laptops, one of which was the M1730 and I noticed it was A07.
Like I said, if you're paranoid / suspicious, leave it. Last time I try to do a favour on this board! -
For the nay-sayers...

So don't get worked up please. Now that you have cleared it up I am sure everything is well again.
Suspicions arise when someone is not aware of something and having said that, unitclan is neither a world reknown place eitherAnd given the number of hackers and what-not's these days, I am sure anyone who stumbled upon such releases or copies of technical things that are not available even with the manufacturer webpages, would be suspicious.
So, all back to normal people.
And for L33, dont stop the favor or anythingYou know never know who might find it useful. Cheers to everyone and a virtual beer to all on me. oleyyyy!!!!!!!!!!

And this is where the 8GB info came from:
-
