My Zalman NC2000 just came today, and I'm having trouble understanding how to use it. It doesn't seem to be working too well, and I'm checking HW monitor to see the difference. Maybe I'm just positioning it wrong, but it doesn't seem to help that much. I'll post test results pretty soon.

Move the M1530 a little bit towards the front, so that around 1 cm of the laptop is sticking out of the Zalman at the front

In truth, the cooler doesn't make a huge difference for the GPU/CPU temp -- only a few degrees. -
What are you using to make the M1530 go off the Zalman like that? Is that necessary?
-

I have tried your position too (and at the moment I am actually using it like yours, partly because of some minor desk space issues since I got an ext keyboard and I needed to accommodate it, and also because I am not doing heavy duty work now on it) and even this is fine. And still I see the effects of the cooler... its better than without one.

I was just playing FEAR with it, and it got to 78 degrees celsius. Usually when I play games my Laptop gets to 75. I don't get it, the Zalman cooler feels cold when I touch it, and it's not working well.
-
It does feel cold because of the material used to make it... And fiddle around with it, Zalman DOES lower temperatures
Search around because there are some Zalman specific threads with temp reports..
As for positioning, did you bring it forward? -
I just got the Zalman NC2000 to use with my XPS M1530 and I couldn't be happier.
The primary reason I purchased it was the components in the front of the laptop were getting ridiculously hot. The palm rest, the hard drive area, basically all the components with the passive grates, but only when gaming for an extended period of time.
I don't think any notebook cooler will shove more air into the GPU / CPU air intake. But my laptop over all is so much cooler now. -
Zalman NC2000 help with M1530.
